Microsoft has announced the rollout of a new feature called shared audio as part of the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build. This feature allows users to share audio between two separate headphones, speakers, earbuds, or hearing aids, making it easier to share music or watch movies with others. The shared audio feature is built on top of Bluetooth LE Audio broadcast technology and is currently only available on select Windows 11 Copilot+ PCs.
To use the shared audio feature, users need to pair and connect two compatible Bluetooth LE Audio accessories to their Windows 11 PC and then use the "Shared audio (preview)" tile in quick settings to start sharing audio. The feature is compatible with a wide range of Bluetooth LE Audio accessories, including Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro, Sony WH-1000XM6, and recent LE Audio capable hearing aids from ReSound and Beltone.
The shared audio feature is currently only supported on select Windows 11 Copilot+ PCs, including the Surface Laptop, Surface Pro, and Samsung Galaxy Book5 series. However, Microsoft expects additional Windows 11 PCs to add support for shared audio later. Users can try out the feature by enrolling their compatible Windows 11 Copilot+ PC in the Windows Insider Dev or Beta Channels and installing the latest OS and driver updates.
Microsoft is encouraging users to provide feedback on the shared audio feature to help refine the experience. Users can file feedback in the Feedback Hub under Bluetooth – Audio quality, glitches, choppiness and stuttering. The company is also recommending that users use the manufacturers’ app for their Bluetooth audio accessories to ensure LE Audio support is enabled and that the latest firmware updates are installed.
As Microsoft continues to roll out the shared audio feature, users can expect to see more Windows 11 PCs and Bluetooth LE Audio accessories supported in the future.
