Key Points:

Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7070 to the Dev and Beta Channels. This build is part of the Windows 11, version 25H2 update and includes various new features, improvements, and fixes. The company is offering the same builds to both the Dev and Beta Channels, allowing Insiders to test and provide feedback on the latest updates.

One of the key updates in this build is the Widgets feature, which now allows users to choose their default dashboard in the Widget Board Settings. The Widget Board has also been updated to show numbered badges on the navigation bar, making it easier to track new alerts. Additionally, the Quick Machine Recovery feature has been streamlined to make it easier for users to recover their PC in case of issues.

Microsoft has also updated Smart App Control, allowing users to switch it on or off without requiring a clean install. The File Explorer has also received several updates, including the re-enabling of people icons under the "Activity" column and the temporary turning off of integration with cloud providers.

The build also includes several fixes, such as resolving issues with interacting with the desktop, File Explorer, and the taskbar. However, there are also some known issues, including problems with the Start menu and notification center, as well as issues with apps not showing in the system tray.

Microsoft is using Controlled Feature Rollout technology to roll out features to a subset of Insiders, monitoring feedback before pushing them out to everyone in the channel. Insiders can turn on the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available via Settings > Windows Update. The company reminds Insiders that features and experiences included in these builds may never get released, and some may change over time or be removed.

As the Dev Channel is expected to move forward to a higher build number soon, Insiders have a limited-time opportunity to switch to the Beta Channel. Microsoft encourages Insiders to evaluate which channel they would like to be in during this time, as the Dev Channel may become less stable after the switch. The company will continue to monitor feedback and update the builds accordingly, with the goal of providing the best possible experience for Windows users.
