Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 28020.1371 to the Canary Channel. This update, also known as KB 5073097, includes a set of general improvements and fixes that aim to enhance the overall experience for Insiders running this build on their PCs. The update addresses several issues, including a problem with the Start menu where selecting an item from a folder of pinned items could cause the entire folder to become invisible.

The update also fixes an issue with File Explorer that caused a white flash when navigating between pages for some Insiders. Additionally, the update addresses a problem with keyboard settings, where the character repeat delay was backwards from how it was set in the backend. The company has also fixed an underlying issue that could cause a PC to freeze when attempting to run Windows Terminal elevated from a non-admin account.

The Canary Channel is a testing channel that features the latest platform changes early in the development cycle. Microsoft notes that the builds released to this channel should not be seen as matched to any specific release of Windows. The features and experiences included in these builds may never be released, as the company tries out different concepts and gathers feedback. Some features may change over time, be removed, or replaced, and may never be released beyond Windows Insiders.

Microsoft uses Control Feature Rollout technology to roll out features to a subset of Insiders, starting with a small group and ramping up over time as feedback is monitored. The company may also release features to the Dev and Beta Channels before they appear in the Canary Channel. Additionally, some features may not be fully localized, and localization will occur over time as features are finalized.

The Windows Insider Program Team reminds Insiders that to get off the Canary Channel, a clean install of Windows 11 will be required. Insiders cannot switch to a channel that is receiving builds with lower build numbers without doing a clean installation of Windows 11 due to technical setup requirements. The team encourages Insiders to check out the Flight Hub for a complete look at which build is in which Insider channel.

The release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 28020.1371 is part of Microsoft’s ongoing effort to test and refine the Windows 11 operating system. The company relies on feedback from Insiders to identify and fix issues, and to determine which features to include in future releases. As the development cycle continues, Insiders can expect to see more updates and changes to the Windows 11 operating system.
