Key points

Microsoft Foundry and partner Mistral AI have unveiled mistral-document-ai-2512, a new enterprise document intelligence model aimed at breaking bottlenecks in document-heavy workflows.

The model combines mistral-ocr-2512 for high-end character recognition with mistral-small-2506 for contextual understanding, making it capable of processing invoices, contracts, reports, and other unstructured formats with multilingual and handwritten content support. According to Microsoft, it’s designed to deliver “enterprise-grade speed and precision” on top of foundation accuracy.

Unlike basic OCR tools that stop at raw text, mistral-document-ai-2512 preserves layout, tables, charts, and annotations. It outputs data ready for downstream integration, such as JSON schemas or markdown with embedded images.

Built for regulated industries—from financial services to healthcare—the model supports private, secure cloud deployment via Microsoft Foundry. The business case lies in faster processing, higher consistency, and cost savings, with benchmarks showing around 95.9% overall accuracy versus 89-91% on other platforms and near-perfect multilingual performance.

“Where traditional OCR stops at ‘here’s the raw text on page 7,’ Mistral Document AI 2512 can say ‘here’s the vendor invoice, here are line-items, here’s the total… ready to plug into downstream systems,” the announcement states. Early adopters can accelerate adoption using ARGUS, an open-source GitHub accelerator that pipelines ingestion, OCR, structured extraction, and integration for Azure Document Intelligence or Mistral Document AI.

Workload demand-sensitive scaling, flexible language coverage, and chart-to-table conversion make it especially powerful for logistics, legal, and retail operations.

Microsoft Foundry users can test the model now and implement it through ARGUS, positioning mistral-document-ai-2512 as a direct route to turning documents from a cost-center into a decision-driving performance lever.
