Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4579311 Fails to Install

Microsoft rolled out new cumulative updates this week as part of the October 2020 Patch Tuesday cycle, and Windows 10 version 2004, or May 2020 Update, received KB4579311.

While everything appeared to be working just fine at first, it now looks like this cumulative update is hitting a series of issues, including the infamous failed installation that occurred so many times before.

A report from TechDows points to various discussions on Microsoft Community forums where users complain of problems with the new cumulative update.

Among them there’s the failed installation, which typically happens when rebooting the device. The computer eventually undoes the changes and returns to the desktop without making any changes.
