Windows 10 File Explorer Looks So Much Better than Microsoft’s Version

Microsoft says it has finalized work on the File Explorer dark theme and it should become available to everyone with the release of the Redstone 5 update for Windows 10 in the fall.

However, as you can see in the screenshot below, the dark theme is far from providing a truly smooth experience, and despite Microsoft claiming it’s ready, there’s a lot of work to do until it can be considered a finalized project.

In the meantime, the Windows 10 user community appears to be much more active in this regard, and some of the ideas that it promotes look substantially better than Microsoft’s.

This concept, for example, envisions a more modern look for File Explorer, based on a design language that Microsoft itself has released as part of the Fluent Design push. The concept uses acrylic for the left sidebar and the title bar.
