Key Points

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 28020.1812 (KB 5083824) to the Canary Channel. The update includes several general improvements and fixes aimed at enhancing the experience for Insiders testing this build on their PCs. Notable changes involve modifications to touchpad settings, sharing interactions, security features, and the Feedback Hub application.

A new touchpad setting allows users to adjust the size of the right-click zone within Settings. This zone, located in the bottom-right corner of the touchpad, can now be set to default, small, medium, or large. The feature is available only for touchpads with a pressable surface and works with existing customizations from manufacturers. Users encountering issues can report them via the Feedback Hub under Input and Language > Touchpad.

The drag tray functionality has been updated to reduce accidental invocations. Microsoft implemented a smaller peek view, making it easier to dismiss the tray when interacting near the top of the screen. This change addresses user feedback to improve reliability during sharing tasks.

In the Windows Security app, device security now includes enhanced Secure Boot features. Visual indicators show green, yellow, or red badges reflecting the device’s Secure Boot state and certificate status. This allows users to monitor certificate updates, which Microsoft is deploying on consumer and some business PCs. The feature is disabled on enterprise-managed devices and servers. Feedback can be shared under Apps > Windows Security in Feedback Hub.

Microsoft also updated the Feedback Hub app based on user input. Version 2.2604.101.0 (rolling out to Dev and Canary channels) includes design refinements such as improved default window sizing, which persists across sessions. Users can now navigate between pages using the mouse back button, and community feedback visibility has been restored. Additionally, upvote buttons now display correctly for Chinese-language users.

Features in the Canary Channel are gradually rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders before expanding to all users in the channel. A toggle in Settings > Windows Update allows Insiders to receive updates faster as they become available. Without this toggle, features arrive later once fully tested. Insiders should note that localization issues in development previews can be reported via Feedback Hub.

Switching channels requires a clean install of Windows 11 due to technical constraints. The desktop watermark visible on pre-release builds is normal. Microsoft recommends Flight Hub for tracking build distribution across channels. Insiders are encouraged to continue providing feedback to shape future updates.
