Key Points

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26300.7733 (KB5074178) to testers in the Dev Channel. The update introduces security enhancements, accessibility improvements, and bug fixes, with features rolling out gradually to participants who enable "get the latest updates as they are available" via Windows Update.

New Features and Improvements

A major addition is the built-in Sysmon tool, previously available as a separate download. Sysmon allows users to monitor system events for threat detection, logging data directly into Windows event logs for integration with security applications. It is disabled by default and requires manual installation through Settings > System > Optional Features or via PowerShell commands. Microsoft cautioned that users who previously installed Sysmon separately must uninstall it before activating the new native version.

Voice Access, an existing feature for hands-free PC control, now supports the Netherlands locale. This expansion aims to improve accessibility for Dutch-speaking users, aligning with Microsoft’s broader efforts to refine voice tools globally.

Fixes and Stability Updates

The update resolves several issues reported by Insiders. File Explorer improvements include better keyboard navigation, fixes for folder renaming with custom names, and restored icons/tooltips for the "Add to favorites" option. Separately, Microsoft addressed app instability when handling files stored on OneDrive or Dropbox, resolving freezes that impacted Outlook setups with OneDrive-hosted PST files.

Rollout Process and Reminders

The update is based on Windows 11 version 25H2, delivered through an "enablement package." Microsoft emphasized that many features are initially available to a subset of Insiders via Controlled Feature Rollout technology, expanding based on feedback. Testers who enable the "latest updates" toggle will receive features faster, though all Dev Channel users will see them gradually.

The company reiterated that pre-release builds will display a desktop watermark, a standard identifier for Insider builds. Features in testing may change, be removed, or never launch publicly. Some functionalities may lack full localization, with translations arriving in later updates.

Microsoft continues to encourage feedback through the Feedback Hub as it prepares future Windows releases. The Windows Insider Program remains a pivotal testing ground for refining next-generation features.
