Key points

According to sources, Cato Networks has launched the Cato Browser Extension, a significant expansion of its SASE platform. This move aims to bring zero-trust policies and enforcement to unmanaged devices, such as personal, partner, contractor, or other endpoints, without requiring clients to install new software. Ofir Agasi, chief product officer at Cato Networks, stated that unmanaged and BYOD devices remain the weakest links in enterprise security, exposing organizations to additional risk.

The Cato Browser Extension is designed to provide customers with the best of both worlds: simple access for users and complete policy control for IT without adding another tool to manage. As a native Google Chrome extension, it provides secure access to unmanaged devices, enforcing ZTNA policies already applied across enterprises. This means that IT professionals do not have to create or manage new rules, making it a significant advantage for enterprise customers.

The extension works natively with standard browsers under one enterprise-wide ZTNA model, allowing enterprise customers to unify access across managed devices via the Cato Client, unmanaged devices through the Cato Browser Extension, and sites and branches with Cato Socket. With the browser extension, enterprise customers gain security advantages, including a consistent, identity-aware security posture across all devices, operational simplicity, and audit readiness.

Cato’s SASE Cloud Platform runs on a private global backbone of more than 90+ points of presence connected via multiple SLA-backed network providers. The company applies optimization and acceleration to all traffic going through the backbone to enhance application performance and the user experience. The Cato Browser Extension is generally available and included in Cato Networks’ user-based licensing for Cato ZTNA, with no additional license required.

This development is significant for Microsoft and Azure users, as it provides an additional layer of security for unmanaged devices, which is crucial in today’s Windows Server and cloud-based environments. The Cato Browser Extension is a valuable tool for enterprises looking to strengthen their security posture and simplify their IT management. With its lightweight and easy-to-use design, it is an attractive solution for organizations seeking to protect their networks and data from potential threats.
