Microsoft has begun releasing an update to its Copilot app on Windows that changes the way users interact with web content while using the AI assistant. In the latest version, when a user clicks on a link during a Copilot conversation, the content opens in a side pane alongside the chat instead of launching a separate browser window. This keeps the conversation and related content visible together, reducing the need to switch contexts.
As part of the update, Copilot gains the ability to access and retain the context of the tabs opened during a conversation. This feature is designed to allow users to ask follow-up questions, summarize information across multiple tabs, or ask the AI to help draft written content based on the material they have viewed. The tabs opened are saved to the conversation history, so they can be easily revisited later.
Microsoft is also adding sync options for passwords and form data. If users choose to enable this feature, Copilot can store and fill login credentials and other form details, making the app more convenient for everyday use.
Alongside these changes, Microsoft is introducing new capabilities such as Podcasts and a Study and Learn mode, which were previously available on Copilot.com. Some features are being temporarily removed so the company can refine them before bringing them back before a wider release.
The updates apply to Copilot app version 146.0.3856.39 and newer, and are rolling out to Windows Insiders across all Insider Channels. Availability may vary as the update gradually reaches users worldwide. Microsoft says it is previewing these changes with the Insider community to gather feedback and improve the experience ahead of broader availability.
Users who want to share thoughts on the new features can do so directly through the Copilot app by selecting the profile icon and choosing the feedback option.
