F5 Boosts AI Security with CalypsoAI Acquisition

Key points:

F5, a leading provider of application delivery and security solutions, has announced its intention to acquire CalypsoAI, a private company based in Dublin, Ireland. The acquisition is valued at $180 million and is expected to close in F5’s fourth quarter fiscal year 2025. CalypsoAI specializes in delivering adaptive AI security capabilities that will be integrated into F5’s Application Delivery and Security Platform (ADSP).

The acquisition is significant because it will allow F5 to offer technology that secures AI models, agents, and inference across different environments, including on-premises, private cloud, public cloud, and edge environments. This is important because AI is redefining enterprise architecture and companies need to defend against a growing attack surface. Traditional firewalls and point solutions are no longer sufficient to keep up with the evolving threat landscape.

According to François Locoh-Donou, President and CEO of F5, the addition of CalypsoAI will give enterprises the confidence to innovate faster and better protect critical data as they rely on F5 to deliver and secure apps, APIs, and AI models across their environment. CalypsoAI’s platform creates an Inference Perimeter that protects across models, vendors, and environments, and offers several products that deliver adversarial testing, threat detection and prevention, and enterprise oversight.

The integration of CalypsoAI’s platform into F5’s ADSP will enable enterprises to secure AI models, agents, and data flows, and provide a single, adaptive platform to secure code, APIs, and AI constructs. This is a significant development because it will allow companies to build with AI, not just react to its risks. As Kunal Anand, F5’s Chief Innovation Officer, noted, "This isn’t about bolting on a new feature. It’s about embedding AI protection into the application fabric itself."

The acquisition is also notable because it highlights the growing importance of AI security in the enterprise landscape. As companies increasingly adopt AI and machine learning to drive innovation and growth, they need to ensure that their AI systems are secure and protected against threats. The combination of F5 and CalypsoAI will provide enterprises with a comprehensive security platform that can help them address these challenges and secure their AI estate.

F5’s acquisition of CalypsoAI is the latest in a series of moves by the company to enhance its security capabilities and provide enterprise customers with a unified platform to secure and optimize applications and APIs. The company has also recently announced the launch of a new AI assistant and code generation service to streamline application delivery and security, and has acquired agentic AI startup Fletch to bolster its security platform. These developments demonstrate F5’s commitment to staying at the forefront of the evolving security landscape and providing its customers with the latest innovations and technologies to secure their applications and data.
