NBA 2K27 is a basketball simulation for PC from Visual Concepts, available on Steam. You play full NBA and WNBA games, build a career from the draft up in MyCAREER, collect players into a fantasy roster in MyTEAM, and run a franchise in MyNBA. The City is the shared online hub where players meet up for pickup games.
MyCAREER is where the biggest change landed this year. You can now play through five eras of NBA history and face legends from each one, instead of a single modern-day story. The Modern Era story is still there for anyone who wants the usual route.
It launched on September 4, 2026 alongside the PS5, Xbox Series X and S and Switch 2 versions. It runs on Windows 10 and 11, needs an SSD, and a gamepad is recommended. Visual Concepts has developed the series since the first NBA 2K in 1999.

What You Need to Know
- Steam sells two versions: Standard at $69.99 and Deluxe at $99.99. The Deluxe adds virtual currency and in-game bonuses, not extra game modes.
- Crossplay does not include PC. 2K limits it to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, so you cannot team up with console friends.
- You need 110 GB of space on an SSD, and a processor that supports AVX2. Older CPUs will not launch it at all.
- Play Now, MyNBA and The W work offline. Everything else, including MyCAREER and The City, needs an internet connection.

How to Download NBA 2K27 on Windows
Steam is the only PC store selling NBA 2K27. The download is large, so start it well before you plan to play.
- Step 1. Open the NBA 2K27 Steam page.
- Step 2. Check that your processor supports AVX2. Most CPUs from 2014 onward do, and the game will not start without it.
- Step 3. Pick Standard unless you want the virtual currency in the Deluxe edition.
- Step 4. Sign in to Steam, or make a free account.
- Step 5. Pay, then open your library and click Install.
- Step 6. Clear 110 GB on an SSD before the download starts. A hard drive is not supported.
- Step 7. Let Steam install DirectX and the Visual C++ Redistributable when it asks.
- Step 8. Create or sign in to a free 2K Account on first launch. MyCAREER and MyTEAM need it.
- Step 9. Plug in a controller. Mouse and keyboard work in menus, but the game is built around a gamepad.

A 110 GB install and an SSD requirement rule out a lot of laptops. Boosteroid runs the game on its own hardware and streams the video to your screen, so your machine only has to play a video feed. Use a wired connection if you can, because shot timing in this game punishes input lag.
Price and Editions
Steam sells two versions. The Standard edition is $69.99 and contains every mode, every team and the full NBA and WNBA rosters. Nothing in the game is locked behind a bigger purchase.
The Deluxe edition is $99.99. The extra $30 buys 100,000 virtual currency, a set of MyTEAM cards and packs, skill and Gatorade boosts for MyCAREER, and Victor Wembanyama and Caitlin Clark jerseys. The MyTEAM cards cannot be auctioned, so you keep them or you do not.
Virtual currency is the thing worth thinking about. It upgrades your MyPLAYER and buys cosmetics, and you can earn it by playing or buy it separately. If you were going to spend on VC anyway, the Deluxe is cheaper than buying 100,000 on its own. If you were not, the Standard is the whole game.
There is a season pass on top of the game
Every season has a free reward track that runs to level 40. 2K also sells a Pro Pass at $9.99 and a Hall of Fame Pass at $19.99 that add premium rewards, and the Hall of Fame version includes an XP booster, ten level skips and 15,000 VC. You do not need either one to play, and the free track still pays out.
What Is NBA 2K27?
NBA 2K27 is the current entry in the yearly basketball series 2K has published since 1999. It covers both leagues, so the WNBA rosters and The W career mode sit alongside the NBA content rather than being a bolt-on. The three cover athletes this year are Victor Wembanyama, Caitlin Clark and Derrick Rose, one for each edition.
The modes split along what you want out of it. MyCAREER builds one player from the draft through a career, MyTEAM is the card collecting mode where you build a fantasy roster, MyNBA hands you a franchise to run across seasons, and Play Now is a straight exhibition game with real teams.
The City ties the online side together. It is a shared space where MyPLAYERs meet for pickup games at The Rec and the Park, with a new Crew HQ for squads and a version of Rucker Park added this year. Gameplay animation is built on ProPLAY, which pulls movement straight from broadcast footage of real NBA games rather than from motion capture sessions.

Key Features
MyCAREER Across Five Eras
You can start your player in one of five eras of NBA history and play against the legends of that period, or take the Modern Era story. It is the first time the mode has offered a route that is not the present day.
A Dunk Meter That Watches the Defense
The dunk meter now judges defensive position from takeoff through the finish, not just your timing. Rising into a set defender is a different outcome from rising into open space.
53 Badges in the MyPLAYER Builder
The builder carries 53 badges, 19 of them new this year. Badges are the perks that decide what your player is actually good at, and the count is what gives builds their variety.
NBA and WNBA in One Game
Full WNBA rosters, The W career mode and MyWNBA sit next to the NBA modes. WNBA players also appear as collectible cards in MyTEAM.
A Rebuilt City, and Rucker Park
The City moved to a nighttime look this year and added Crew HQ, a home base for squads. Rucker Park, the Harlem court, is recreated for MyCAREER and the Street Kings mode.
Offline Modes That Actually Work Offline
Play Now, MyNBA and The W run without an internet connection. That is worth knowing before you buy, because the rest of the game does not.
Crossplay and Where PC Sits
This is the single most important thing to check before buying on PC, and it is easy to miss on the store page. 2K supports crossplay in NBA 2K27, but not for the PC version. Here is how the platforms actually line up.
PC
Steam Only
PC players match with other PC players. You cannot join a lobby with a friend on PS5 or Xbox, and that is a deliberate limit rather than a missing feature.
CONSOLE
PS5 and Xbox Series
Crossplay works between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S in co-op matches and online tournaments. Both sides need a paid online subscription.
MyTEAM
The Auction House
2K unified the MyTEAM Auction House across PS5, Xbox Series X and S and Switch 2. PC is not on that list, so the PC market runs on its own.
SWITCH 2
Standard Only
Nintendo Switch 2 gets the Standard edition and nothing else. The Deluxe is limited to PS5, Xbox Series and Steam.
2K states the limit in its own NBA 2K27 FAQ, where the crossplay answer names PS5 and Xbox Series consoles only.
What this means in practice depends on who you play with. If your regular group is on PC, nothing changes and the PC player base fills lobbies fine. If your group is on console, buy it on the console they use instead.
It also affects MyTEAM. Card prices are set by whoever is trading on your platform, so the PC auction house has its own supply and its own prices, separate from the pooled console market.

- ❌ You bought NBA 2K26 and only want roster updates, because nothing carries over
🏀 Our Take
The era-based MyCAREER is the first structural change to this series in years that is worth the upgrade on its own. Playing a career that starts in a different decade changes the rosters, the rules of thumb and the players you measure yourself against, which is more interesting than another modern-day rookie story. The dunk meter reading defensive position is a smaller change that does more work than it sounds like, because it makes the same input produce different results depending on what is in front of you.
The honest problem on PC is not the basketball, it is the platform. Being cut out of crossplay and out of the shared MyTEAM auction house makes the PC version feel like the version 2K builds last, and the virtual currency economy still shapes how long it takes to make your player good. If you play alone or with PC friends, this is the best basketball game you can buy. If half your group is on a console, buy it there instead and save yourself the argument.
Why Play on PC?
- Higher framerates. Shot timing is judged in fractions of a second, and a steady frame rate makes the release window feel consistent. Consoles run at whatever the hardware allows.
- Graphics control. You can turn down crowd and lighting detail to hold a stable frame rate on a mid-range card, which matters more here than raw visual quality.
- DLSS 5 support. NVIDIA lists NBA 2K27 with DLSS 5, its neural rendering technique that improves lighting and skin detail while buying back performance on RTX cards.
- Streaming without a strong PC. NBA 2K27 is on GeForce NOW, which runs your own Steam copy on NVIDIA hardware. DLSS 5 there needs the Ultimate plan.
- Controller choice. The game supports DualSense, DualShock and standard gamepads, so you can use the controller you already like rather than the one the console came with.

Tips for Beginners
Set your shot timing before you play a single game
Open the controller settings and decide between shot timing and real player percentage. Changing it after twenty games means relearning the release point on every jumper.
Start in MyNBA or Play Now, not The City
The City throws you against players who have been grinding since launch. Offline games teach you the new dunk meter and defensive contests without an audience.
Pick two or three badges and build around them
With 53 badges available, spreading points thin makes a player who is mediocre everywhere. Decide what your player is for, then feed that.
Earn VC through the free season track first
The season reward ladder runs to level 40 and pays out without a pass. Play through it before deciding whether you want to spend money on currency.
Wire your connection for online modes
The Rec, the Park and MyTEAM matches all run on live servers, and Wi-Fi jitter shows up as shots releasing late. A cable fixes more than any setting will.
