Key points

According to sources, organizations running mission-critical workloads are looking for ways to maintain control and operational autonomy while still innovating and using advanced technologies like AI and cloud computing. This is where Azure’s adaptive cloud approach comes in, which is designed to help organizations innovate on their terms while maintaining control.

One of the key challenges that these organizations face is ensuring that their systems are resilient and can operate autonomously, even in the event of a network outage or other disruption. For example, manufacturing plants need to be able to continue operating during network outages, and healthcare providers need to be able to access patient data during natural disasters.

To address these challenges, Microsoft has introduced Azure Local, which is a platform that delivers Azure infrastructure to customers’ own datacenters or distributed locations. Azure Local comes with integrated compute, storage, and networking services and leverages Azure Arc to extend cloud services across the management, data, application, and security layers into hybrid and disconnected environments.

Over the past six months, Microsoft has significantly expanded Azure Local’s capabilities to meet requirements across industries. For example, GSK, a global biopharma leader, is using Azure Local to extend cloud innovation and AI to the edge, enabling real-time data processing and AI inferencing across vaccine and medicine manufacturing and R&D labs worldwide.

In addition to Azure Local, Microsoft is also using Azure IoT and Microsoft Fabric to bring AI to physical operations. Azure IoT enables asset-intensive organizations to harness data from devices and sensors in a secure, scalable, and resilient fashion, while Microsoft Fabric provides real-time insights from operational data.

Azure IoT is being used by companies like Chevron and Husqvarna to scale their operations and unlock new use cases such as predictive maintenance and worker safety.

Finally, Microsoft is also focusing on simplifying centralized operations through a single, unified control plane via Azure Arc. Azure Arc provides a unified platform for managing distributed resources at scale, across heterogeneous environments, in a frictionless way.

Overall, Azure’s adaptive cloud approach is designed to give organizations the freedom to innovate on their terms while maintaining control. With Azure Local, Azure IoT, and Azure Arc, Microsoft is providing a range of tools and services to help organizations achieve their goals and modernize confidently without sacrificing resiliency or control. Microsoft is committed to meeting customers where they are and providing them with the tools and services they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
