007 First Light is a spy action-adventure for PC from IO Interactive, available on Steam and Epic Games. You play as James Bond at 26, still an MI6 recruit, not yet a 00 agent. One mission stands between him and the licence to kill. What you do with it, and how, is up to you.
IO Interactive is the studio behind the Hitman trilogy, and that experience shows. You can fight through every encounter, slip through undetected, or talk your way past a guard, and the game supports all three. It runs on IO’s in-house Glacier engine, the same technology that powered all three Hitman games, now updated with fully dynamic lighting and drivable vehicles.
007 First Light released on May 27, 2026, for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is coming later in 2026. The game is single-player only. It scored 88 on OpenCritic from 55 critics, with 98% recommending it.

How to Download 007 First Light on PC
007 First Light is available on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Both versions are identical. You need around 80GB of free SSD space, and an SSD is mandatory. The game will not run properly on a standard hard drive.
Install via Steam
- Step 1. Go to the 007 First Light Steam page and click Add to Cart or Buy Now.
- Step 2. Sign in to your Steam account or create one for free. Complete the purchase.
- Step 3. Open the Steam client. Find 007 First Light in your Library and click Install.

What Is 007 First Light?
007 First Light tells the origin story of James Bond. You play as Bond at 26, new to MI6, and not yet a 00 agent. One mission separates him from the number. The game does not adapt any Bond film. IO Interactive and EON Productions built an original story drawing from Ian Fleming’s novels, set in a world that has no fixed connection to the Daniel Craig era or any other film continuity. Bond’s face and voice belong to Irish actor Patrick Gibson. The result is a version of Bond that belongs entirely to gaming, one you can shape through how you choose to play.
Gameplay pulls from two different traditions. From IO’s Hitman work comes the freedom of approach. Almost every encounter can be handled through stealth, brute force, or talking your way through it using a fake identity. From the Uncharted and Batman: Arkham series comes the cinematic energy: large-scale setpieces, fluid melee combat with environmental awareness, and a camera that knows when to pull back and let the action breathe. First Light is less of a puzzle to be solved quietly and more of a thriller to be lived through, at whatever pace you prefer.
The supporting cast is built around classic Bond characters given fresh takes. M is younger and more supportive. Moneypenny works in the field alongside Bond, not just behind a desk. Q is back as a gadget quartermaster but with a different personality from the Ben Whishaw interpretation. New original characters include Bond’s MI6 mentor John Greenway (Lennie James), French intelligence agent Charlotte Roth (Noemie Nakai), and Dr. Selina Tan (Gemma Chan), a psychology and game theory expert. The main antagonist Bawma is played by Lenny Kravitz. The theme song, “First Light,” is performed by Lana Del Rey.

Three Ways to Play Every Mission
Every major encounter supports stealth, action, or social infiltration. You can knock out a guard, sneak past them, or talk your way through using a cover identity. Missions track how you approach them but never lock you into one style.
Freeflow Combat System
Hand-to-hand combat borrows from the Batman: Arkham freeflow system. Attacks chain between enemies, counters interrupt incoming strikes, and the environment plays a role. Bond can use furniture, walls, and improvised weapons mid-fight.
Drivable Vehicles Including the Aston Martin
007 First Light is IO Interactive’s first game with drivable vehicles. A modified Aston Martin Valhalla serves as one of Bond’s Q-branch gadgets. Vehicle missions include chases and objective-based driving sequences.

Bond receives gadgets from Q that serve both combat and stealth purposes. These include the Aston Martin Valhalla, an Omega Seamaster watch with built-in tools, and smaller devices designed for infiltration, distraction, or extraction.

IO Interactive took direct inspiration from Uncharted’s large-scale action sequences. The game includes destructible environments, dynamic camera moments, and mission climaxes built to feel like scenes from a Bond film. Light and shadow update in real time as you move through each environment, so fires, explosions, and open doorways all change the look of the space around you.
Full Voice Cast and Original Story
Patrick Gibson plays Bond. Gemma Chan, Lennie James, Lenny Kravitz, and Priyanga Burford round out the main cast. The theme song “First Light” is performed by Lana Del Rey with orchestration by David Arnold, a veteran of the Bond film series.

007 First Light is the best Bond game in roughly thirty years, and by a comfortable margin. IO Interactive brought the same discipline to the Bond license that it applied to Hitman: player freedom, environmental detail, and a refusal to take the easy route. What sets First Light apart from the Hitman formula is its forward momentum. You are not stalking a target over and over until you find the perfect opening. You are moving through a story with weight, making calls in the moment, and occasionally outrunning the consequences. The 88 on OpenCritic is not an accident. This is a polished, well-paced campaign that earns its runtime.
If you have any interest in spy games, action-adventure campaigns, or the Bond franchise, buy it now. If you were hoping for Hitman’s open sandbox with score ratings and multiple exits, you will need to adjust expectations. This is Bond, not 47. The philosophy is different, and the game is better for it.
Why Play on PC?
- Uncapped Framerate: Console versions run at 60fps maximum. On PC, you can push well beyond that with the right hardware, including 200+ fps using DLSS 4.5 on RTX 50-series cards.
- Full Graphics Control: Five official spec tiers from Low at 1080p/30fps up to Ultra 4K. Path tracing (a lighting technique that makes shadows and reflections look much more realistic) is arriving as a free patch this summer. Adjust textures, shadows, and video memory use to match your hardware.
- Ultrawide Support: The game supports 21:9 and 32:9 ultrawide monitors with a fully adjustable field-of-view slider, something console versions do not offer.
- Upscaling Support: Nvidia DLSS 4.5 is supported on compatible Nvidia cards. It uses AI to sharpen the image and generate extra frames, so you get higher frame rates without a big drop in image quality. AMD FSR 3.1 and Intel XeSS offer similar benefits for AMD and Intel GPU owners.
- Full Input Remapping: Every keyboard, mouse, and controller binding can be customised from the settings menu.

Tips for Getting Started
Do Not Ignore the Cover Identity System
Many missions give Bond a cover story. Staying in cover lets you walk into areas you would otherwise need to fight through. Breaking cover by doing something suspicious forces a confrontation. Take time early on to understand when you are in and out of cover before committing to an approach.
Use Your Gadgets Before Defaulting to Violence
The Omega watch and Bond’s other Q-branch tools can open doors, distract guards, and create openings without alerting nearby enemies. Players who rush straight into combat often make sections harder than they need to be. Check your gadget loadout before entering each new area.
Let the Environment Work for You in Combat
The combat system chains attacks between enemies automatically as long as you keep pressing. Walls, furniture, and nearby objects can be used to finish enemies faster. When you are surrounded, focus on blocking incoming hits and using whatever is around you rather than standing still and trading punches one at a time.
Replay Missions for a Different Experience
The game supports mission replay with optional modifiers. A mission you completed through stealth plays very differently when you go loud. The structure rewards replaying to see what other approaches were possible, and the modifiers add challenge for players who want more from a second run.
Set Graphics Before Your First Session
The game has five official performance tiers and a detailed PC settings menu. Match your settings to your hardware tier before you start rather than adjusting mid-session. If you have an Nvidia graphics card, enable DLSS Super Resolution. It sharpens the image using AI and gives you more frames with almost no drop in quality. If you have an AMD card, enable FSR 3.1 instead. Intel Arc GPU owners should use XeSS. All three do the same job on different hardware.
