Ready or Not is a tactical first-person SWAT shooter for PC from VOID Interactive, available on Steam and Epic Games.
You command a five-person SWAT team through high-risk raids based on hostage situations, bomb threats, and armed standoffs. Every breach takes planning. There are no respawns mid-mission and no quick reloads to bail you out of a bad call.
The realism is what sets it apart from other shooters. Bullets pass through walls, doors, and bodies the way they would in real life, and your squad’s mental state matters as much as their health. Watching a hostage or teammate die can shake an officer enough to hurt their performance for the rest of the mission.
Ready or Not fully released on December 13, 2023 after two years in Early Access. It runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11 via Steam or Epic Games.

What Is Ready or Not?
Ready or Not puts you in command of a SWAT unit in Los Suenos, a fictional city overwhelmed by violent crime. You plan and lead raids against hostage situations, barricaded suspects, and active bomb threats, then execute the breach yourself in first person. Missions are slow and methodical. Rushing in usually gets your squad killed.
The game leans hard into realism most shooters skip. Gunfire passes through thin walls and doors, and your officers can take a lasting mental toll from violence they witness on a raid. An officer who watches a hostage die or a squadmate go down may perform worse for the rest of the mission, or eventually be unable to keep serving at all.
You build your squad from a roster of officers, gear them up with real-world weapons and equipment, and run drills in a training facility before heading into a mission. Ready or Not fully released on December 13, 2023 after two years in Early Access, and VOID Interactive has continued adding paid expansions and free content since launch.

Key Features
Command a Five-Person SWAT Team
Build your squad from a roster of officers, assign roles, and give tactical orders mid-mission. Every raid demands real planning, since there is no way to undo a bad call once the breach starts.
Realistic Weapon and Bullet Physics
Bullets pass through walls, doors, furniture, and bodies the way they would in real life. Cover is never fully safe, and tactics like flanking and breach angles matter more than reflexes alone.
Squad Mental Health System
Watching a hostage or teammate die affects an officer’s performance for the rest of the mission. Long-term trauma can sideline officers temporarily or end their careers, so keeping your team safe matters beyond just winning the raid.
Up to Five-Player Online Co-op
Team up with friends to run raids together, with crossplay support between Steam and Epic Games versions. Coordinating callouts and breach timing with a real team changes the pace of every mission.
Authentic Gear and Loadout Customization
Equip your team with real-world weapons, attachments, and protective gear suited to each mission type. A training facility at headquarters lets you test loadouts before heading out on a call.
Missions Inspired by Real-World Crime
Storylines span multiple missions and cover topics like human trafficking, arms dealing, and extremism. The tone is grim and deliberately uncomfortable rather than action-movie heroic.
Is This Game for You?
You Will Love It If:
- ✅ You want a slow, methodical tactical shooter over a fast-paced arcade one
- ✅ You enjoy planning a raid as much as executing it
- ✅ You like playing co-op with a coordinated team
- ✅ You want realistic gunplay where cover and walls do not guarantee safety
- ✅ You are fine with grim, mature subject matter
You Might Not If:
- ❌ You want a fast, twitchy competitive shooter
- ❌ You are sensitive to graphic violence or heavy subject matter
- ❌ You prefer solo games with no reliance on AI teammates
- ❌ You want quick matches instead of slower, planning-heavy missions
🎮 Our Take
Ready or Not delivers on its core promise: a tactical shooter where planning a breach matters more than your reflexes. The bullet physics and squad mental health system give it a weight most shooters do not bother with, and the co-op experience is genuinely tense when a team coordinates well. Reception has been mixed in spots, with some players citing bugs and uneven performance, but the tactical core holds up.
If you want a slow, serious tactical shooter and do not mind grim subject matter, this is worth buying now. If you are looking for a fast competitive shooter or want a totally polished experience with zero rough edges, you may want to watch a few gameplay videos first. If your PC cannot run it well, you can also stream it through Boosteroid instead of upgrading hardware.

Tips for Getting Started
Slow Down Before Every Breach
Most deaths in Ready or Not come from rushing a door without checking it first. Use mirrors, cameras, and stacking commands to scout a room before your team commits.
Learn the Non-Lethal Tools Early
Stun grenades, pepper spray, and shields let you control a room without killing everyone in it. Some missions and achievements reward a lower body count, so it pays to practice these tools in training first.
Watch Your Squad’s Mental State
An officer who watches a hostage or teammate die can underperform for the rest of the mission. Pull a shaken officer back from the front line rather than pushing them into another firefight right away.
Play Co-op With Voice Chat if You Can
Coordinating callouts and breach timing with real teammates makes a huge difference over AI squadmates. If your friends are on the other store, crossplay between Steam and Epic Games means you can still squad up.
Use the Training Facility Before New Mission Types
Test new loadouts and gear in the training facility before taking them into a real mission. It is a low-stakes way to learn how a new weapon or piece of equipment handles before lives are on the line.
