Microsoft has announced the release of new AI-powered features for Windows 11, designed to make the operating system more intuitive and user-friendly. According to a new consumer AI report commissioned by Microsoft, nearly 60% of people report using generative AI for work and business purposes in the past year, while 64% use AI for hobbies and personal interests. To meet this growing demand, Windows 11 is introducing several new features, including an agent in Settings, Click to Do, and Relight in the Photos app.

The new agent in Settings allows users to describe what they want to change using their own words, and instantly get recommendations, including actions to adjust the relevant setting with one click. This feature is available on Copilot+ PCs with Snapdragon X Series processors, with support for Intel and AMD devices coming soon. Click to Do is a feature that provides contextual actions to text and images on the screen, allowing users to get things done faster. New actions available include Practice in Reading Coach, Read with Immersive Reader, and Draft with Copilot in Word.

Another feature introduced is Relight in the Photos app, which brings professional lighting controls to snapshots. Users can open any image in Photos, select Edit, and then click to place up to three virtual light sources around their subject. The Photos app also allows users to adjust each light’s intensity, color, and position with simple sliders, or choose from built-in presets.

Microsoft has also updated Paint with new AI-powered features, including a sticker generator and object select. The sticker generator allows users to create custom stickers by typing a prompt, while object select is a smart selection tool that uses AI to help users isolate and edit individual elements in their image. Additionally, Snipping Tool has been updated with two new features: perfect screenshot and color picker. Perfect screenshot allows users to precisely capture content on their screen without the need to crop or resize it post-capture, while color picker enables users to easily identify and capture colors seen on their screen.

Microsoft Copilot and Edge on Windows 11 have also been updated with new features. Copilot Vision on Windows is a new way to engage with Windows 11 PCs, allowing users to get instant insights and answers. Microsoft Edge is the only browser built for Windows, offering a seamless PC browsing experience with AI-powered tools, productivity features, and built-in performance and security features.

The updates are available for Windows 11 users, with some features available today via the Windows non-security preview update. Users can enroll in the Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) program to keep their current Windows 10 PC protected after support ends. Microsoft is committed to ensuring a smooth transition to Windows 11, with support and resources available to help users move forward with confidence.
