Building AI apps starts where developers work—like Visual Studio Code (VS Code), Microsoft’s free coding tool. A new PostgreSQL extension lets developers set up secure databases in Azure right from VS Code. No more switching between apps: one click creates a database, with built-in security and monitoring.

Once the database is ready, GitHub Copilot—Microsoft’s AI assistant—helps write and fix SQL code using plain English. “Copilot understands your database, so you spend less time debugging and more time building,” the spokesperson added.

Real-Time AI, Real-World Results

For apps needing speed—like stock trading or medical research—Azure’s new DiskANN indexing makes searches faster and more accurate. Nasdaq, known for its financial tech, used Azure PostgreSQL and Microsoft Foundry to build AI tools for business leaders. Their system now reads 500-page reports instantly, flagging key details without risking data leaks.

Microsoft also lets developers connect PostgreSQL to Microsoft Fabric, its data analytics service, for live insights without slowing down apps. “Fresh data means smarter decisions,” the spokesperson noted.

The Future: Azure HorizonDB

At a recent tech event, Microsoft introduced Azure HorizonDB, a new PostgreSQL-compatible service for heavy AI workloads still in testing. Built for speed, it promises split-second responses and massive scale—key for apps like chatbots or global recommendations engines.
