Key Points
– New Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26300.7965 now available in the Dev Channel
– Administrator Protection feature being re-enabled to limit admin rights, disabled by default
– File Explorer improvements include voice typing for renaming files and reduced visual flashes
Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26300.7965 (KB 5079385) to users in the Dev Channel. The update includes a range of new features and improvements gradually being pushed out to Windows Insiders, starting first with users who enabled a toggle for the latest updates.
Among the major additions is the Administrator Protection feature, which is being re-enabled and is designed to limit administrator privileges to just-in-time usage. This means administrators can still perform all management tasks, but elevated rights are granted only as needed. The feature is turned off by default and can be enabled through Intune or group policy settings.
In the Sharing area, Microsoft is refining the drag tray interaction to make it less prone to accidental activation. The change uses a smaller preview view so users can more easily dismiss it when working near the top of the screen.
File Explorer is also getting new capabilities and refinements. Users can now activate voice typing by pressing Windows key plus H to rename files inside File Explorer. The update also removes the white flashes that used to appear when opening a new File Explorer window or tab set to “This PC” or when resizing elements. Another improvement increases the reliability of unblocking and previewing downloaded files.
The Dev Channel update is based on Windows 11, version 25H2 and is delivered via an enablement package. Microsoft is using Controlled Feature Rollout technology so features are first shown to a subset of Windows Insiders, with broader deployment occurring over time based on feedback. Some planned features may change, be removed, or never appear outside the Insider program. Non-English builds may also arrive later, and feedback is encouraged via the Feedback Hub.
These Insider builds are the testing ground for potential future Windows 11 releases, so while the new improvements may not all appear right away in the stable version of Windows, they help inform what may come next. Windows Insiders looking for early access can toggle on “Get the latest updates as they are available” in Settings under Windows Update.
