Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27919 to the Canary Channel. This update brings changes and improvements to Windows Search settings, which are now organized under Settings > Privacy & security. The Search permissions and Searching Windows settings pages have been combined into a single page, providing easy access to all Windows Search settings. The page has been refreshed with a modern visual design, making it easier for users to browse and control their Windows Search experiences.

The update also includes fixes for various issues, including a problem that caused File Explorer to crash when trying to view the digital signatures tab in the properties for a file. Additionally, issues with the Microsoft Changjie Input method and phonetic keyboards, such as the Hindi Phonetic Input keyboard and the Marathi Phonetic keyboard, have been resolved.

However, there are some known issues with the build, including an error that causes Windows Hello pin and biometrics to become unavailable when joining the Canary Channel on a new Copilot+ PC. Users may also experience issues with the progress wheel, Group Policy Editor, and some apps crashing due to an underlying problem with dao360.dll. Furthermore, there are problems with remote desktop and widgets, which may not function properly or be unavailable after upgrading to this build.

Microsoft reminds Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel that the builds released to this channel represent the latest platform changes early in the development cycle and may not be matched to any specific release of Windows. Features and experiences included in these builds may change over time, be removed, or replaced, and may never get released beyond Windows Insiders. Some features may show up in future Windows releases when they are ready.

The Canary Channel builds are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as Microsoft monitors feedback. Some features may show up in the Dev and Beta Channels first before appearing in the Canary Channel. Microsoft also notes that some features in active development may not be fully localized and that localization will happen over time as features are finalized.

As a reminder, Insiders can’t switch to a channel that is receiving builds with lower build numbers without doing a clean installation of Windows 11.
