Formed in mid-2023 by networking giants Cisco, Arista, HPE, and Intel, the UEC aims to address the growing demands of these industries.

Historically, Infiniband has been the preferred choice for HPC and AI due to its performance advantages. However, the UEC 1.0 spec aims to level the playing field. By adopting a "workload semantic approach," the UEC tunes Ethernet to meet specific workload requirements without altering applications.   • Arista Networks is integrating the spec into its Etherlink products, starting with the 7060X and 7800R, ensuring support for low tail latency and modern congestion control.
  • Juniper Networks is leveraging the spec’s packet spraying and reordering capabilities, partnering with AMD on a validated design combining Juniper’s switches with UEC-ready AMD Pollara NIC.
  • HPE, a founding member, has contributed significantly to the Ultra Ethernet Transport Protocol (UET), with plans to implement the spec into its Aruba Networking CX line and future data center switching products.
