Mouse pi for hire on pc cover - MOUSE: P.I. For Hire – Download, Gameplay & Tips (2026)

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire is a first-person shooter for PC from Fumi Games, available on Steam. You play Jack Pepper, a mouse private detective in a city called Mouseburg. A simple missing persons case turns into a full conspiracy involving corrupt officials, armed gangs, and murder. You shoot your way through it all.

The art style is what makes this one stand out. Every frame is hand-drawn in black and white, using the rubber hose animation style popular in 1930s cartoons. It looks like someone took a Fleischer Studios short film and turned it into a boomer shooter (a fast, old-school style first-person shooter focused on movement and action, not cover or stealth). The result is unlike anything else on PC right now.

The game launched on April 16, 2026 on Windows 10 and 11. It is single-player only with no co-op or multiplayer. Fumi Games developed it and PlaySide published it.

What Is MOUSE: P.I. For Hire?

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire is a first-person shooter set in a fictional 1930s city called Mouseburg, where mice walk, talk, and live like humans. You play Jack Pepper, a former war hero who became a private detective. A standard missing persons case quickly spirals out of control, pulling you into a conspiracy that goes all the way up to corrupt city officials and organized crime.

The game’s biggest selling point is its art style. Every frame is drawn by hand in black and white using rubber hose animation, the style used in cartoons from the 1930s like Popeye, Betty Boop, and early Mickey Mouse. There is no color in this game at all. Characters have round, stretchy limbs, exaggerated expressions, and move with the same bouncy energy you would expect from an old cartoon reel. It is all backed by an original big band jazz soundtrack.

The shooting is fast, loud, and chaotic in a good way. You carry a range of cartoon weapons, some familiar and some completely over the top, plus power-ups that give you a temporary edge in a fight. Boss fights are a highlight, each one built around the game’s exaggerated cartoon logic.

Key Features

🎨Hand-Drawn Animation

Every frame is drawn by hand, frame by frame. The result is a black and white cartoon look that is unlike any other game on PC. It runs smoothly and holds up in motion.

🔍Noir Detective Story

You are not just shooting. There is a full detective story here. Cases to solve, clues to find, and a conspiracy that unfolds across Mouseburg. It is written with genuine wit and character.

🔫Cartoon Weapons and Power-Ups

Classic guns, experimental gadgets, and over-the-top tools of chaos. Grab power-ups to get a temporary edge when a fight turns bad.

🏙️Diverse City Environments

Mouseburg is not one single setting. You move through dark streets, film studios, opera buildings, poisonous swamps, and underground sewers. Each area has its own feel and enemies.

👊Boss Fights

Bosses are built around cartoon excess. Big, loud, and inventive. They are some of the most memorable moments in the game and are where the art style gets to go completely over the top.

🎷Big Band Jazz Soundtrack

An original score that fits the 1930s setting perfectly. Horns, drums, and upbeat jazz play through every gunfight in a way that makes combat feel absurd and fun. Included as a download in the Deluxe Edition.

🤔 Is This Game for You?

✅ You Will Love It If:

  • You like fast-paced first-person shooters with a real story behind them
  • You appreciate games that have a look nobody else has
  • You grew up watching old cartoons or love that era’s style
  • You want something that looks and feels completely different

❌ You Might Not If:

  • You only play multiplayer or co-op shooters
  • Black and white visuals are hard on your eyes
  • You prefer open-world games over linear stories
  • Cartoony, comedic tones are not your thing

🎮 Our Take

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire earns its Overwhelmingly Positive rating. The hand-drawn animation is not just a gimmick. It is clearly the result of enormous effort, and it holds up in actual gameplay. The shooting feels solid underneath all the cartoon chaos, and the detective story gives you an actual reason to keep going from level to level. This is not a short novelty. It is a complete, well-built game that happens to look like nothing else on PC.

If you want a shooter with a strong personality and a look that belongs entirely to itself, buy it now. If you mostly play multiplayer games or need online modes to stay interested, this is not the one. MOUSE is a single-player experience through and through, and it is built to be exactly that.

5 Tips for Beginners

New to Mouseburg? These habits will save you in the first few hours.

1

Keep moving. Standing still gets you killed.

MOUSE is a fast, old-school shooter at heart, which means it rewards constant movement. The enemies hit hard when you let them close in. Side-step, circle around them, and keep your aim on target while you move.

2

Use your power-ups. They are not trophies.

A lot of players hold on to power-ups and then die with a full inventory. Use them as soon as a fight gets tight. They recharge, and saving them does not help you if you are dead.

3

Explore every corner. Collectibles are everywhere.

Mouseburg is packed with hidden clues and collectibles. These add to the story and give you extra context on the world. If a room looks empty, check the corners. The game rewards curiosity.

4

Switch weapons based on the situation.

No single gun works for every fight. Tight corridors call for something close-range. Open areas give you room to use longer-range weapons. Get familiar with your full weapon lineup early so you are not caught reloading the wrong thing mid-fight.

5

Watch boss patterns before committing.

Bosses follow patterns even when they look chaotic. Spend the first few seconds reading the attack before you unload everything. Most bosses have a clear window where they slow down. That is your moment.
