Microsoft has announced major updates to its Surface Copilot+ PC portfolio, specifically targeting business customers with new models that combine portable design, AI acceleration, and 5G connectivity. The new lineup includes the Surface Laptop 5G, 13.8-inch, powered by Intel Core Ultra (Series 2) processors; the Surface Laptop, 13-inch; and the Surface Pro, 12-inch. While the smaller models are available starting today, the Surface Laptop 5G will ship on August 26.
These latest Surface devices are built to support AI-driven workflows, especially through Microsoft 365 Copilot, which uses cloud-based intelligence to enhance collaboration and task automation. The Surface Laptop 5G stands out with its 40+ TOPS Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that ensures fast, on-device AI performance. This helps business users save time in meetings, complete tasks faster, and reduce distractions with smarter, more intuitive tools.
A standout feature is the built-in 5G connectivity, a top request from enterprise customers. Microsoft responded to this need by designing the device to maintain continuous, secure access to cloud resources, whether in the office or on the go. The laptop supports both NanoSIM and eSIM options, and its dynamic antenna system adjusts to user behavior and locations for consistent signal strength. This makes it ideal for professionals like field engineers, traveling sales leaders, or consultants who rely on mobile productivity tools.
Beyond connectivity, the Surface Laptop 5G is designed from the ground up to support a modern, mobile workforce. Key innovations include a custom multi-layered laminate material that enables strong 5G signals without affecting device durability or design. The lightweight build—under 3 pounds—ensures the laptop is easy to carry, while rigorous real-world testing guarantees strong performance in various environments and networks globally.
Security and management are also built into the Surface ecosystem. With Windows and Microsoft Intune integration, IT teams can remotely manage devices, deploy updates, and enforce policies using cloud-based tools. The Surface Management Portal and Security Copilot help simplify device oversight and respond to threats faster. An optional PanzerGlass Privacy Screen offers additional security for users working in public spaces.
The launch of these devices comes at a critical time, as Windows 10 support ends on October 14, 2025. Microsoft is encouraging businesses to upgrade to Windows 11-based Surface devices, which are designed to support AI workloads and modern security standards.
Businesses can now access the Surface Laptop, 13-inch and Surface Pro, 12-inch, with the Surface Laptop 5G arriving in late August. The devices are available through Microsoft and partner channels, including Verizon Business, with rolling retail availability in selected stores.
