Microsoft announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.5790 to the Dev Channel for Windows Insiders on Windows 11, version 25H2. The update brings new features, improvements, and fixes, which are being gradually rolled out to Insiders who have turned on the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available. One of the notable features is fluid dictation in voice access, which makes voice-based dictation smoother and smarter. This feature automatically corrects grammar, punctuation, and filler words as you speak, reducing the need for manual editing.

Another significant update is the availability of Windows Studio Effects on additional cameras, including USB webcams and laptop rear cameras. This feature enhances camera hardware capabilities, helping users stay professional and look their best across more setups. To get started, users need to navigate to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Cameras and select their preferred camera from the connected cameras list.

The update also introduces on-hover actions in File Explorer Home, allowing users to access commands like Open file location and Ask Copilot about this file by hovering over a file with their mouse. This experience is currently only available for users signed in with a Microsoft account, with work or school account support coming in a future flight.

Microsoft has also addressed various issues, including performance problems and bugs. For instance, the company has fixed an underlying issue that was causing Insiders on certain devices to experience an unexpected increase in lag in various scenarios. Additionally, the update fixes issues with the taskbar, File Explorer, and Settings, including a problem that could cause the app preview windows in the taskbar to become misaligned.

As with any update, there are known issues that Microsoft is investigating, including an issue causing some PCs to bugcheck while hibernating and an issue with audio stopping working and Device Manager showing devices with a yellow exclamation mark. The company has provided workarounds for these issues, including instructions on how to update drivers and uninstall problematic devices.

The release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.5790 is part of Microsoft’s ongoing effort to improve and refine the Windows 11 experience. As the company continues to receive feedback from Windows Insiders, it will refine and finalize features, which may eventually make their way to future Windows releases. For now, Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel can expect to see more features and improvements rolled out over time, with the option to turn on the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available.
