Microsoft is releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 28020.1619 to Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel as part of the ongoing development cycle for the operating system. This build brings a mix of improvements for productivity, accessibility, personalization, and creative tools. Features are being rolled out gradually using control technology so that Microsoft can monitor feedback before a wider release.
One key enhancement is an expansion of the Cross Device Resume feature, which first appeared in the May 2025 Windows non-security update. It now supports resuming activities like Spotify playback, Microsoft 365 work, and browsing on a Windows PC directly from certain Android phones. For example, users with HONOR, OPPO, Samsung, Vivo, or Xiaomi devices can pick up browsing sessions or open online files from the Microsoft Copilot app and continue them in the appropriate app or browser on their PC.
Narrator, the screen reader built into Windows, now lets users control which details it announces about on-screen controls and adjust their order to match navigation preferences. This change is meant to reduce unnecessary speech and help users move through interfaces more efficiently.
For security, Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security has been expanded to work with supported external fingerprint readers on Windows 11. This allows desktop and Copilot+ PC users to benefit from stronger sign-in protection without needing a built-in biometric sensor.
Voice Typing and Voice Access both gain usability improvements: the former introduces a configurable delay setting before commands are executed, making it easier for users with different speech patterns, while the latter rolls out a quicker, clearer setup flow to help new users download the correct voice model and microphone.
Settings Agent, the AI-powered assistant in the Settings app, expands to support additional languages, including German, Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, Italian, and Chinese (Simplified), broadening utility for multi-language environments.
Microsoft is also rolling out a revamped SCOOBE screen for some testers, simplifying the process of reviewing and choosing recommended settings after setup. Additionally, Paint users gain a new freeform rotate tool, allowing them to rotate shapes, text, or selections at any angle for greater precision during editing.
These updates reflect Microsoft’s push to refine Windows 11’s usability through accessibility features, device integration, and creative tools, all while managing deployment through structured testing channels to ensure stability before a broader rollout.
