What Is Changing in Windows 11
This update focuses on making daily computer use faster and less frustrating. The Release Preview channel is the last testing stop before these features roll out to all regular Windows 11 computers.
1. File Explorer Gets Smarter and Safer
The preview pane inside File Explorer received several practical upgrades:
- Safer HTML viewing: Downloaded web pages no longer throw confusing warning blocks. Instead, you will see a clear Preview anyway button to inspect the file safely without opening a browser.
- Instant PDF previews: PDF documents now show up automatically in the preview pane when selected.
- Reliable thumbnails: Cloud files stored in OneDrive or third-party cloud apps load preview pictures much faster without freezing.
- Stable address bar: The folder address bar at the top will no longer reset if you click nearby files while organizing folders.
2. Emoji 17.0 Support Arrives
Windows 11 now includes the complete Emoji 17.0 collection. New characters include the distorted face, fight cloud, and hairy creature icon. Several favorite icons also received visual updates, including the goose, lotus, saluting face, and kissing cat.
3. Helpful Widgets and Keyboard Control
A new Tips widget is available on the Widgets board. It shares short, bite-sized guides on hidden Windows tools and helpful shortcuts. If your laptop or keyboard comes with a physical Copilot key, Windows now allows you to remap it so it acts as standard Right Ctrl or the traditional Context Menu key.
| Feature Area | What Changed | Everyday Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| File Explorer | Added safe HTML preview button, automatic PDF previews, and fixed address bar resets. | Check files quickly in one click without extra software or interruptions. |
| Emoji Support | Added the complete Emoji 17.0 library and polished several older icons. | Send new reactions and enjoy cleaner icons in messaging apps. |
| Keyboard Setup | Gives an option to turn the Copilot key into a Right Ctrl or Menu button. | Lets you use your favorite typing shortcuts without hitting Copilot by mistake. |
| Widgets Board | Added a dedicated Tips widget with quick system pointers. | Learn useful tricks for your PC right from the desktop. |
How This Reaches Your PC
Microsoft is rolling out these updates in two steps. Critical fixes for Bluetooth and stability arrive on all devices right away. Visual changes, like the new preview options and keyboard remapping, will activate gradually over the coming days.
Why This Matters
While preview releases often sound like routine background fixes, these two builds give you practical upgrades that improve everyday computer work. You get fewer pop-up warnings when checking downloaded documents, steady Bluetooth accessories, and keyboard controls that match the way you type.
If you are part of the Windows Insider Program in the Release Preview Channel, you can download the update by opening Settings > Windows Update. You can also view the full release notes directly on the Windows Insider Blog.
