Aniimo on PC: catch, Twine and explore the continent of Idyll. Click to open it full size.

Aniimo is a free creature-catching open-world RPG for PC from Pawprint Studio, available on Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Xbox app. You explore the continent of Idyll, catch the creatures that live there, and build a team that fights beside you. Most of them can evolve, and which ones appear depends on the weather, the place and the time of day.

The trick that sets it apart is called Twining. You can turn into any Aniimo you have caught and use its body to fly, dive or burrow through the world. Puzzles and shortcuts are built around those abilities, so a new catch is also a new way to move.

It launched on September 16, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with iOS and Android following on September 23. It needs Windows 10 64-bit or later, an always-on internet connection and 40 GB of storage. Controllers are supported, including the DualSense.

How to Download Aniimo on Windows

All three PC versions are the same free game. Use the launcher you already have installed, so you are not adding a fourth one just for this.

  • Step 1. Pick your store. Open Aniimo on Steam, the Epic Games Store or the Xbox store.
  • Step 2. Add it to your library. Click the button to get the game. It costs nothing.
  • Step 3. Install it on an SSD if you can. The download is about 40 GB.
  • Step 4. Launch it and pick a server. Choose Americas, Europe or Asia-Pacific, whichever is closest to you.
  • Step 5. Create your Pathfinder. Then follow the opening quest to your first Aniimo.

💡 Your PC is too weak? Cloud gaming is an option. Try Boosteroid. It is also on Xbox Cloud Gaming, which streams it in your browser with a Microsoft account.

Is Aniimo Free? What It Sells

What Is Aniimo?

Aniimo is a creature collector set in an open world you can walk, glide and swim across freely. You play a Pathfinder, a traveler exploring the continent of Idyll, and every creature you meet out there can join your team. A floating sky city called Astra works as the social hub, where you meet other players.

Catching is more involved than throwing a ball and hoping. You can set traps and time your throw, and the right moment makes a real difference. Which creatures show up changes with the weather, the area and the time of day, so the same field holds different Aniimo at night.

The Aniilog tracks every species you catch, with rewards for filling it in.

Fights are real time, not turn based. Each Aniimo has a role, such as healer, damage dealer or tank, and types that beat other types, so switching creatures mid-fight is part of winning. Most of them can evolve into larger forms as they level up.

Most Aniimo grow into larger forms as they level up.

Outside the main adventure there is a home to build and a mode to compete in. Every player owns an RV parked in the open world, and a Homeland where you plant crops, decorate and let your Aniimo roam. Operation: Egg Heist puts you on a team of three, searching islands for eggs while other teams try to take them. The game is developed by Pawprint Studio, which is backed by FunPlus, and it runs on online servers, so you need an internet connection to play.

Key Features

Twine into your Aniimo

Take control of any creature you have caught. Its abilities become yours, from flying over a gorge to burrowing under a wall.

Catching with real timing

Traps and well-timed throws matter. A careless throw lets a rare Aniimo slip away.

A world that changes by the hour

Weather and time of day decide which creatures appear, so it pays to come back to the same place later.

Real-time team battles

Healers, tanks and damage dealers each have a job, and type matchups reward swapping mid-fight.

Homeland and your RV

Grow crops, decorate a home and park an RV in the open world where other players can visit.

Operation: Egg Heist

A three-player team mode that mixes fighting the world with fighting other teams for the same eggs.

Our Take

🎮 Our Take

Aniimo is the closest thing PC players have had to a full open-world creature collector of this kind, and Twining is the reason to try it. Turning into the thing you caught, then using it to cross the map, gives every new catch a second purpose beyond battle stats. The world-reacts-to-the-clock design is the other strong idea, because it gives you a reason to revisit places. Our reservation is the shop. Catching is fair, but a creature tied to the paid pass at launch tells you where the money is meant to come from, and that edge shows most in the competitive modes.

If you want to explore, catch and build a team at your own pace, download it now: it costs nothing but disk space, and the free path covers the whole adventure. If you came for Egg Heist and PvP, play the free game first and decide later whether the pass is worth it to you. And if seasonal shops wear you down in any game, this one will too, so set your limits before you start.

System Requirements

These are Pawprint Studio’s published requirements. They are moderate for an open world this size, and the recommended column is the one to aim for if you want smooth exploration.

Aniimo PC Requirements
As published by Pawprint Studio on Steam and Epic
Component Minimum Recommended
OS 64-bit Windows 10 64-bit Windows 10 or later
Processor Intel Core i7-4770 / AMD Ryzen 7 2700 Intel Core i7-10700 / AMD Ryzen 5 5600
Memory 8 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 / AMD Radeon RX 5600 NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 / AMD Radeon RX 6700
DirectX Version 11 Version 11 (Steam) or 12 (Epic)
Storage 40 GB 40 GB on an SSD
Network Broadband internet Broadband internet

The GTX 970 at minimum means a fairly old gaming PC can start it, but an 8 GB machine will struggle in busy areas. If your PC falls short, cloud gaming runs it for you, and if you are shopping for an upgrade, our Best Gaming Desktops guide is a good place to start.

Tips for Beginners

1

Pick the nearest server

Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific are separate. A distant server adds lag to every fight and catch.

2

Come back at night

Some Aniimo only appear at certain times or in certain weather. Check a favorite area again after dark.

3

Catch for movement, not just power

A weak Aniimo that flies or burrows opens shortcuts and puzzles. Twine with it before you swap it out.

4

Build a balanced team

Carry a healer and a tank alongside your damage dealers, and switch when a type matchup goes against you.

5

Check the free pass track first

The free track pays out on its own. Play a season before deciding the paid track is worth it.

Aniimo FAQ

Is Aniimo pay to win?
Not in the way most people mean it. You catch every Aniimo in the open world rather than pulling them from random banners, and the story, the regions and the creatures you find in the wild do not need money. What money does buy is speed and extras: a paid track on the seasonal pass, a premium currency for cosmetics and shop items, and boosts that shorten the grind. At launch, the paid track of the pass also included its own Aniimo. That matters most in the competitive modes, so if you mainly play Egg Heist or PvP, expect paying players to be a step ahead.
Is Aniimo cross-platform?
Yes for multiplayer. Steam and Epic both list cross-platform multiplayer, so PC players meet players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and, since September 23, 2026, iOS and Android. Pawprint Studio runs three regional servers on PC: Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific. Pick the one closest to you, not the one your friends happen to be on, unless you plan to play together.
Can I play Aniimo with a controller on PC?
Yes. Steam lists controller support with specific DualSense support, and the Xbox version on PC is built around an Xbox controller. Keyboard and mouse work too. Catching feels easier with a mouse because you aim the Aniipod throw, while traversal and long Twine flights sit more comfortably on a controller.
Which PC store should I download Aniimo from?
Any of them, since the game is free on all three. Pick the launcher you already use: Steam, the Epic Games Store, or the Xbox app (the Microsoft Store version). If you plan to stream it through cloud gaming, Steam or the Xbox version is the safer choice, because those are the two versions Boosteroid lists.
What are the Aniimo system requirements?
The minimum is 64-bit Windows 10, an Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD Ryzen 7 2700, 8 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 970 or Radeon RX 5600, DirectX 11 and 40 GB of storage. The recommended spec is an Intel Core i7-10700 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600, 16 GB of RAM and a GeForce RTX 3060 or Radeon RX 6700. Epic lists an SSD for the recommended setup, and an open world that streams in this much scenery loads far better from one.
Is Aniimo on Game Pass?
It does not need to be. Aniimo is free to download on Xbox and on PC through the Xbox app, so there is nothing for Game Pass to unlock. It is also on Xbox Cloud Gaming, so you can stream it in a browser with your Microsoft account; check the Xbox play page for what your account needs. You only pay if you choose to buy currency, the paid pass track or cosmetics inside the game.
