Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is a 2D action-exploration game for PC from KONAMI and Evil Empire, available on Steam and the Xbox app. You play Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor Belmont, as monsters pour into a burning Paris. You explore one large map, fight bosses and unlock new paths as you get stronger.

The whip does more than hit things. Rose uses the Vampire Killer whip to swing across gaps like a trapeze artist, so getting around is part of the fight. Every boss you beat becomes a tarot card that gives you a new power.

It came out on October 15, 2026. On PC it needs Windows 11, has full controller support, and a free demo is on Steam. Evil Empire made it with advice from Motion Twin, the team behind Dead Cells.

What Is Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse?

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is set in 1499, 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Monsters flood out of a castle and set Paris on fire. Trevor Belmont goes into the streets with his daughter Rose, and Rose ends up pulled into a conspiracy under the city.

Rose Belmont stands on a stone ledge facing Medusa, a giant boss with a mass of green snake heads and a long pink-spiked train

Medusa is one of the classic Castlevania bosses that returns.

It plays like Symphony of the Night: one big connected map, not a set of levels. The map fills in as you explore the castle and the city around it. Bosses guard keys that open large gates to new areas, and Rose gains experience and levels up as she fights.

Rose Belmont fights a red demon on the upper floor of a green-lit cathedral while flaming projectiles fly in from both sides

Fights mix whip attacks with the weapons you find.

There are no classic sub-weapons or hearts. Instead, each boss you beat is sealed into a tarot card, called an Arcana, that gives you a spell or a special move. You heal with food and flasks, and mirrors act as save points and fast travel. The English cast includes Abby Trott as Rose and Graham McTavish as Dracula.

Key Features

Whip-based movement

The Vampire Killer whip latches onto hook points so Rose can swing over gaps and reach high ledges, then strike in the same move.

Bosses become Arcana

Beat Death, Medusa, Carmilla or Joan of Arc and the boss is sealed into a tarot card that grants a spell or special action.

Seven weapon categories

Swords, spears, gauntlets and more sit beside the whip, so you can build the fighting style you like.

Relics

Equip Relics for attack and defense effects, and combine them with your weapons to change how Rose plays.

One connected map

Paris and the castle form one big map that fills in as you explore, with gates that open as you collect boss keys.

Classic Castlevania touches

Gothic halls, clock towers and returning monsters sit beside new areas built for this game.

Our Take

🎮 Our Take

This is the Castlevania fans have asked KONAMI for: a full 2D game with a big map, real bosses and a Belmont holding the whip. Handing it to Evil Empire was a smart call, since the team worked on Dead Cells, including its Return to Castlevania expansion, and knows how fast, tight combat should feel. The whip swinging and the boss-to-tarot-card system give it its own identity instead of a straight copy of Symphony of the Night. At $29.99 it also costs less than most new releases. The two weak spots on PC are the Windows 11 requirement, which shuts out a lot of older machines, and a start-up black screen on some high refresh rate monitors at launch, which a community fix covers (see the mods below).

Play the free demo first. It is the opening chapter and your save carries over, so you lose nothing. If you liked Hollow Knight: Silksong or any of the old Castlevania games, the standard edition is an easy buy. Skip the Midnight Edition unless you want the art book and soundtrack app, because it adds no gameplay. If you are still on Windows 10, wait until you upgrade.

System Requirements

These are the requirements KONAMI lists on Steam. Both tiers need Windows 11 and 16 GB of RAM, which is more memory than most 2D games ask for. The game runs at 60 frames per second on PC.

Tips for Beginners

1

Start with the demo

The demo is the opening chapter, and the save moves to the full game on Steam. It is a free head start, not a throwaway.

2

Use the whip to move

Look for hook points above gaps and ledges. Swinging is often the only way forward, and it gets you out of trouble in fights.

3

Touch every mirror

Mirrors save your game and let you fast travel. Stop at each new one before you push into an unknown area.

4

Equip each new Arcana

Every boss you beat gives you a new tarot card. Try it right away, because it may be the key to an area you could not reach.

5

Try every weapon category

Swords, spears and gauntlets play very differently. Test new weapons with your Relics before you settle on one style.

Best Belmont’s Curse Mods to Start With

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse has no Steam Workshop. Mods come from Nexus Mods, and the first wave is mostly fixes for PC display problems. These five are the most useful to start with.

These mods are made for the Steam version and install into the game folder by hand. The game is single-player, so there is no online ban risk, but a game update can break a mod until its author fixes it. Back up your save before you add anything.

Belmont’s Curse FAQ

Is there a Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse demo on PC?
Yes. A free demo with the opening chapter is on Steam. Your demo save carries over to the full game, as long as you buy it on Steam with the same account, keep the demo save, and update the full game to the latest version.
Does Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse run on Windows 10?
Steam lists Windows 11 (64-bit) as the minimum operating system for both the minimum and recommended specs. Windows 10 is not listed, so KONAMI does not support it on PC.
Is Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse a roguelike like Dead Cells?
No. Evil Empire worked on Dead Cells, but this is not a roguelike. It is a 2D action-exploration game with one large, fixed map that you uncover as you go, closer to Symphony of the Night than to Dead Cells.
Is Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse multiplayer or co-op?
No. Steam lists it as single-player only. There is no online mode.
Is Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse on PC Game Pass?
No. It is not part of Game Pass. You can buy it in the Xbox app, and that copy supports Xbox Play Anywhere, so one purchase works on both Windows and Xbox Series X|S with shared saves.
What are the Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse system requirements?
The minimum is Windows 11 (64-bit), an Intel Core i5-8400, 16 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 and 10 GB of storage. The recommended spec steps up to an Intel Core i5-10400 and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060.
