Microsoft Releases New Windows 11 Test Build to Beta Channel

Microsoft has made a new test version of Windows 11 available to participants in its Windows Insider program. The release, designated as Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.8079 (with the knowledge base identifier KB5079482), is being distributed to the Beta Channel. This channel typically receives builds that are more stable than those in the Dev Channel but may still contain bugs.

The distribution of changes and new features within the Beta Channel follows a two-part process. Some improvements are deployed to a small, initial group of testers who have manually enabled a specific setting. Other updates are then rolled out to all participants in the channel over time. This staged approach, known as Controlled Feature Rollout, allows Microsoft to monitor feedback and stability before a feature reaches a wider audience.

Users who wish to receive new features as soon as they are available for their device can turn on a toggle. This option is found in Settings > Windows Update. Those who leave the toggle off will still eventually receive the features, but the rollout to their specific PC may be slower. Insiders are reminded that a desktop watermark in the lower right corner is a normal indicator of running a pre-release build.

This particular build addresses several specific problems. Under the Input category, Microsoft improved the reliability of the explorer.exe process when closing an input flyout. It also fixed an issue related to configuring the fluid dictation option within the voice typing settings, which is activated using the Windows key plus H.

A fix in the Network and Sharing area corrects a display error in the Network and Sharing Center. Previously, the center could incorrectly show two active Wi-Fi connections after a user switched from one network to another. The update ensures the center now accurately reflects only a single active Wi-Fi connection upon connecting to a new network.

The company reiterates that features included in Insider builds are experimental. They may change, be removed, or never be released to the general public. Some concepts tested may appear in future Windows releases when finalized, while others will not proceed. Furthermore, features in active development may not be fully translated into all languages, with localization continuing as features are completed. Users encountering translation problems are asked to report them via the Feedback Hub.

For a comprehensive view of which builds are available in each Insider channel, Microsoft directs participants to consult the Flight Hub page. This build serves as the latest step in the ongoing testing cycle for the next updates to Windows 11, with Insiders providing critical early feedback on functionality and user experience.
