Microsoft has rolled out Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.8148 to the Beta Channel. This release is part of the Windows Insider Program, where users test pre-release software to help refine future updates for Windows 11.
The company explains that Beta Channel updates fall into two categories. First, new features and improvements are rolled out gradually to Insiders who have enabled a toggle in Settings > Windows Update. Second, changes are deployed to all Beta Channel members over time. This approach uses Controlled Feature Rollout technology to start with a small group and expand based on feedback.
Insiders with the toggle turned on receive several enhancements. A new icon for Windows Protected Print Mode is included, though details are limited. More visibly, haptic feedback is now supported on compatible input devices. Users can feel tactile responses during actions like aligning objects in PowerPoint, snapping windows, resizing windows, or hovering over the Close button. These effects can be configured in Settings under Bluetooth & devices > Mouse > Haptic signals. Microsoft asks for feedback via Feedback Hub under Input and Language > Mouse.
Gaming features have been updated. The Xbox full screen experience is now called Xbox mode, and an improved first run experience has been added when entering this mode. Feedback on these changes is requested through Feedback Hub under Gaming and Xbox > Gaming Full Screen Experience.
Other improvements apply to all Beta Channel Insiders. Performance has been improved for launching startup apps, which are managed in Settings > Apps > Startup. An issue causing some apps to fail sign-in with an internal connection error, even when internet was available, has been fixed. Additionally, a crash that affected printing for certain Insiders in recent builds has been resolved.
Microsoft includes key reminders for participants. This build corresponds to Windows 11, version 25H2 via an enablement package. The desktop watermark in the lower right corner is normal for pre-release Insider builds. Insiders can opt for early feature access by turning on the toggle in Settings > Windows Update. Over time, more features will be pushed to those with the toggle enabled; if it remains off, features will still roll out gradually once ready.
Importantly, features in Insider builds are experimental. They may change, be removed, or never be released in final Windows versions. Some features might not be fully localized, and users are encouraged to report such issues via Feedback Hub.
