Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27938 to the Canary Channel. This update introduces several new features and improvements, including AI actions in File Explorer. With this new feature, users can right-click on a file and access AI-powered tools, such as editing images or summarizing documents, without having to open the file. The AI actions in File Explorer are easily accessible and allow users to stay in their flow while leveraging the power of AI.
The build includes four image actions that support file types such as .jpg, .jpeg, and .png. These actions include Bing Visual Search, which allows users to search the web using an image instead of text, Blur Background, which opens the Photos app and automatically blurs the background of an image, Erase Objects, which allows users to remove unwanted elements from a photo, and Remove Background, which automatically removes the background from an image using Paint.
In addition to the new AI actions, the update also brings back the bigger clock with seconds option in the notification center. This feature, which was highly requested from Windows 10, allows users to show a bigger clock with seconds above the date and calendar in the notification center. To turn this option on, users can go to Settings > Time & language > Date & time and flip the switch for Show time in the Notification Center.
The update also includes several fixes and improvements, such as fixing an issue that caused the "Reset this PC" option to not work, improving performance related to Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), and fixing issues with File Explorer and Search. Additionally, the update includes a new page in Settings that allows users to see which third-party applications have recently used generative AI models provided by Windows.
Microsoft is working on addressing several known issues, including an issue that causes some Windows Insiders to experience a rollback when attempting to install the build, and an issue that causes Settings > System > Storage > Temporary files to get stuck when scanning files. The company is also investigating an issue that causes some Insiders to experience screen flickers when using the browser.
Overall, Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27938 brings several new features and improvements to the Canary Channel, including AI actions in File Explorer and the bigger clock with seconds option in the notification center. As with any pre-release build, users may experience issues and bugs, and Microsoft is working to address these issues and improve the overall user experience.
