Microsoft announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.6972 to the Dev Channel. This update brings new features, improvements, and fixes to Windows Insiders. The company has documented the changes in two buckets: features being gradually rolled out to Insiders who have turned on the toggle to get the latest updates, and features rolling out to everyone in the Dev Channel.
One of the new features being gradually rolled out is the ability to manage mobile devices directly from Settings. Users can navigate to "Mobile Devices" under the Bluetooth & Devices section to view, add, and manage their mobile devices. This includes using their device as a connected camera or accessing their device’s files in File Explorer.
Another new feature is the addition of an entry point to the benefits page on account.microsoft.com. The account control on the Start menu now has an option to "View my benefits," making it easier for users to explore and manage the benefits that come with their Microsoft account.
The build also includes improvements to Game Pass. Microsoft has modified references to Game Pass plans in Settings to reflect updated branding and benefits. Furthermore, the company has made updates to the dark mode experience in File Explorer, ensuring a consistent dark mode experience in the Folder Options dialog.
In terms of fixes, Microsoft has resolved an issue with File Explorer that could cause a Catastrophic Error (0x8000FFFF) when extracting large archive files. The company has also fixed display and graphics issues, including a problem that was causing some videos and games to be unexpectedly red. Additionally, Microsoft has improved the performance when apps query monitors for their supported modes, reducing stuttering on high-resolution monitors.
Other fixes include resolving issues with Windows Update, such as an error that could lead to updates failing to install. Microsoft has also fixed issues with Outlook and Remote Credential Guard scenarios.
The company is aware of some known issues, including a problem with text actions that use Phi Silica in Click to Do and Recall. Microsoft is also investigating an issue that is causing the Start menu to not open for some Insiders on click. The company will continue to monitor feedback and make adjustments to the build as needed.
For Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel, Microsoft reminds them that features and experiences may change over time and may not be fully localized. The company encourages Insiders to report any issues with localization via Feedback Hub. As the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths, features and experiences may show up in the Beta Channel first. Microsoft advises Insiders to check out Flight Hub for a complete look at what build is in which Insider channel.
