The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon is a single-player JRPG for PC from Nihon Falcom, available on Steam. What is Trails beyond the Horizon?
The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon is a single-player JRPG developed by Nihon Falcom and PH3 GmbH, published by NIS America. It is part of the long-running Trails (Kiseki) series and centers on the prophesied end of the Zemurian continent during a period when humanity is preparing for its first space launch.
Three protagonists anchor the story: Van Arkride (a fixer for hire who operates outside normal legal boundaries), Rean Schwarzer (a war hero and instructor), and Father Kevin Graham (a church operative). Each character follows their own story path with a separate party. The paths connect and intersect as the plot reaches its conclusion.
Combat uses a hybrid system. Field Battles are real-time and use the new Z.O.C. mechanic, which slows enemies and amplifies your damage output when activated. Awakening gives characters a temporary power boost during these fights. Characters enter a temporary powered-up state during Field Battles. Awakening boosts your attack output and gives you access to moves and abilities you cannot use otherwise.

S-Boosts provide unique benefits to your party during battles. Choosing which Shard Commands to bring into a fight adds a planning step before combat starts.
👥Three Protagonists

Nihon Falcom has been building the Trails universe across more than a decade of games, and this entry is designed to deliver on all of that buildup. Bringing Van, Rean, and Kevin into a shared story is the kind of crossover the series has been building toward since Cold Steel. The Z.O.C. system adds real tactical weight to Field Battles, which have historically been the weaker part of the combat when compared to Command Battles.
If you are new to the series, start here and use the in-game lore tools, but expect to look things up. The Trails series rewards players who invest in its world. If you are coming from Reverie or Daybreak, this is the entry you have been waiting for.
