Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7653 to the Dev Channel. This build is identical to the one released to the Beta Channel on January 16th. As a result, Dev Channel Insiders now have the opportunity to switch to the Beta Channel, but this window will close soon. Once the Dev Channel moves forward to a higher build number, the opportunity to switch between channels will be unavailable until a future opportunity arises.
The latest build includes several new features, improvements, and fixes. In the Account Settings, the design of dialogs in "Accounts > Other Users" has been updated to use the modern WinUI framework with support for dark mode. Additionally, the Click to Do feature now loads Copilot prompt suggestions instantly, although this change is not yet available to Windows Insiders in the European Economic Area or China.
Other updates include the ability to set .webp images as desktop backgrounds in Settings > Personalization > Desktop Background. The build also includes several fixes, such as resolving issues with the taskbar and system tray, Start menu, and Bluetooth device battery level. Furthermore, the build addresses issues with login and lock screens, Settings, and other areas of the operating system.
Microsoft is also aware of several known issues, including problems with the Xbox full screen experience for PC, taskbar and system tray, and display and graphics. The company is working to resolve these issues and appreciates feedback from Windows Insiders.
The Windows Insider Program Team reminds Insiders that updates are based on Windows 11, version 25H2 via an enablement package. Many features are rolled out using Controlled Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time. Insiders can turn on the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available via Settings > Windows Update. However, features and experiences included in these builds may never be released, and some may change over time or be removed.
The release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7653 demonstrates Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to improve and refine the Windows 11 operating system. As the company continues to gather feedback from Windows Insiders, it is likely that future builds will address existing issues and introduce new features and improvements.
