Cato Networks Boosts Security with AI-Powered Tools for Modern Threats

This week, Cato Networks, a major player in cloud security, announced two significant upgrades to its Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) platform. The new tools are designed to tackle two urgent problems for businesses today: securing the AI applications employees are using, and using artificial intelligence itself to stop advanced cyber attacks.

The first upgrade is called Cato Neural Edge. It involves placing powerful Nvidia computer chips (GPUs) directly inside Cato’s massive global network. This network, known as a private global backbone, has over 85 locations (called Points of Presence or PoPs) worldwide. By adding this "brainpower" to its network core, Cato can now inspect all internet traffic for threats in real-time, without slowing anything down. The company says this allows for instant analysis of suspicious behavior and immediate enforcement of security rules, all happening within its own infrastructure.

The second launch is Cato AI Security. This tool focuses on managing and securing how people and companies use AI. It can monitor employee use of public AI tools like chatbots, protect custom-built AI applications a company creates, and set safety rules for AI agents that work autonomously. A key feature is that it’s not a separate product; it works as part of the single Cato SASE Platform.

“AI is changing both sides of the equation: the threats we face and the defenses we need,” said Matan Getz, Vice President of AI Security at Cato Networks. “With Cato Neural Edge and Cato AI Security, we are empowering enterprises to strengthen AI-driven defense and govern enterprise AI without sacrificing performance or adding operational complexity.”

This strategy aligns with a major prediction from research firm Gartner: by 2028, over three-quarters of enterprises will use AI-amplified cybersecurity products. Cato states this trend is forcing companies to upgrade both their security software and the underlying network infrastructure that powers it. Their solution embeds AI processing directly into their network’s PoPs, avoiding the delays that come from sending traffic to distant cloud servers for analysis.

The benefit of this unified approach is highlighted by an early customer. Crane Worldwide Logistics, a global logistics firm, is already using the AI Security features. Their executive, Marc Crudgington, praised the integrated design. “One of the biggest advantages for us is that AI security isn’t another console or separate enforcement layer. It’s built directly into the Cato SASE Platform,” Crudgington stated. He explained that their team can control AI usage, secure their own AI projects, and manage automated AI agents all from the same policy engine and data lake that already manages their network and cloud security. He believes this cuts down on complexity and ensures rules are applied consistently, no matter where an AI tool is running.

For organizations operating in Microsoft-heavy environments, this is particularly relevant. Many businesses use Windows Server, Azure cloud services, and Microsoft 365 while also adopting AI tools like Microsoft’s Copilot or their own Azure AI solutions. Cato’s platform sits in front of this entire ecosystem. It can secure access to these Microsoft services and now specifically govern/secure the AI interactions happening within them, all from a single, cloud-based control panel. This provides a consolidated security view for hybrid environments that mix on-premises Windows servers with Azure and SaaS applications.

In essence, Cato is betting that the future of cybersecurity is intelligent, integrated, and invisible. By putting AI processing in its global network backbone and baking AI security into its core platform, it aims to offer protection that is both powerful and simple to manage. Cato AI Security is now available to all customers worldwide, and Cato Neural Edge has already been deployed across its entire SASE platform.
