Probably Stolen is a cyberpunk shopkeeping sim for PC from Questing Goose Studio, available on Steam. You run a pawnshop on a space station split between the rich and everyone else. You buy, check, fix and resell goods of doubtful origin, and try to earn enough to buy the shop before the rent buries you.

Every customer is a judgment call. The seller at your counter could be a scammer, an undercover Security officer, a wanted criminal or an Aug, a human taken over by a rogue AI chip. You decide whether to buy, refuse, report them, or look the other way.

It came out on October 28, 2026, published by tinyBuild. It runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11, is played with the mouse, and needs only 1 GB of storage. Questing Goose Studio is a small team in Montreal, and it announced 200,000 copies sold in the first few hours after launch.

How to Download Probably Stolen on Windows

Steam is the only place to buy it on PC. The download is small, so it installs in a few minutes on most connections.

  • Step 1. Install Steam. Download it from the Steam website and sign in.
  • Step 2. Open the store page. Go to Probably Stolen on Steam.
  • Step 3. Pick an edition. Add the base game or the Supporter Edition to your cart and check out.
  • Step 4. Install it. Click Install in your library.
  • Step 5. Launch it and pick your starting job.

Probably Stolen Editions and Price

There are two ways to buy it. The Supporter Edition adds only the soundtrack, so it changes nothing in the game itself. Pick it if you like the music or want to give the small team a bit more.

What Is Probably Stolen?

Probably Stolen puts you behind the counter of a pawnshop on a huge space station run by money and corruption. You are a former scavenger who got the shop thanks to a loan and some lucky timing. Now the rent goes up, the factions are watching, and the best money is in the gray zone between legal and not.

Each day, customers come to buy and sell. Most of the game is checking what is in front of you: is the cigarette pack a fake, is the water safe, what is that rare item really worth? You can also cut corners. Water the product down, relabel fakes as genuine, or fence stolen goods, and hope Security does not find out.

You start by picking a job, and each one plays differently. There are nine at launch: Apprentice, Water Merchant, Fence, Gunsmith, Chemist, Hydroponic Farmer, Aquafarmer, Rat Wrangler, and Rock Bottom, where you start with nothing.

Then there are the Augs. A rogue AI chip took over some of the station’s people, and they look like everyone else until they slip up. Every faction agrees they must be stopped, and you keep a gun under the counter. Shoot the wrong customer, though, and you pay for that too.

Key Features

Nine ways to start

Open as a gunsmith, chemist, water merchant, fence, farmer, aquafarmer or rat wrangler, or from rock bottom with nothing at all.

Spot the fakes

Inspect cigarette packs, test and filter water, and appraise rare items so you do not overpay for junk or a clever fake.

Haggle every deal

Bargain for the best price, but every discount and favor costs you something somewhere else.

Machines and production

Build production chains with furnaces, 3D printers, hydroponics and chemistry gear to make goods worth far more than the parts.

Factions and reputation

Lower Levels, Upper Levels, Security, the Black Market and the Revolution all keep score. Reputation opens deals and paints a target on you.

Hide or bribe

Stash contraband in smuggler bays before inspections, or pay your way out when Security catches you.

Our Take

🎮 Our Take

Probably Stolen takes the shop sim and adds the one thing most of them lack: a reason to doubt every customer. Checking a logo or testing a bottle of water sounds dull on paper, but because a mistake costs real money with the rent always due, each deal carries some tension. The nine starting jobs are the other strength. A Water Merchant run and a Gunsmith run feel like different games, so there is plenty to come back for. The weak spot is the screen itself. Later in a run you juggle many storage, machine and smuggler windows at once, and it can turn into inventory sorting more than shopkeeping.

If you like shop sims or games like Papers, Please, where the fun is in checking details and making hard calls, buy it. At $19.99 with tiny system requirements, it is an easy pick for an older PC. If you need action, a controller or co-op, skip it.

System Requirements

These are the requirements Questing Goose Studio lists on Steam. There is only a minimum spec, and nearly any PC from the last ten years meets it.

Tips for Beginners

1

Start as the Apprentice

The studio calls it the best job for beginners. It covers a bit of everything, so you learn each system before you specialize.

2

Check before you pay

Inspect, test or appraise anything valuable before you buy it. Suppliers overstate value, and the cost of a fake is yours.

3

Always know when rent is due

The wall sign shows the next payment. Keep enough cash aside, because a seized shipment can wipe out your margin overnight.

4

Hide contraband before inspections

Move stolen and illegal goods into a smuggler bay before Security walks in. Anything left out can be confiscated.

5

Learn the signs of an Aug

The Security guide lists them: unnatural stillness, twitching, an outfit that does not match their faction, and robotic or overly formal speech.

Best Probably Stolen Mods to Start With

Probably Stolen launched with mod support built in. Mods come from the Steam Workshop: subscribe to one, then turn it on from the Mods panel in the main menu. Several dozen were up on launch day, and many are from Chinese modders. These four add something new without making the game easier.

The game is single-player, so mods carry no ban risk. They are unofficial, though, and an update can break them. If the game acts up after a patch, turn your mods off in the Mods panel first. Mods made for the old demo will probably not work.

Probably Stolen FAQ

Is there a Probably Stolen demo?
Not any more. The free demo was taken down when the full game launched on October 28, 2026. If you played the demo, your saves carry over, but Questing Goose Studio recommends starting a new game so you do not miss the storylines added in the full release.
Can you play Probably Stolen with a controller?
Steam does not list controller support. The game is built around the mouse, and Steam lists a mouse-only option. Valve rated it Playable on Steam Deck, which means it runs but some text is small and the default controls are not fully set up.
Does Probably Stolen support mods?
Yes. The full game has Steam Workshop support and a modding API (the tools modders use to add new content). Subscribe to a mod on the Workshop, then turn it on from the Mods panel in the main menu. Mods made for the demo will probably not work with the full game.
Is Probably Stolen multiplayer?
No. Probably Stolen is a single-player game with no co-op or online mode.
Does Probably Stolen have an ending?
Yes. Your goal is to buy the store from your landlord and become its owner. When you do, the game shows your full run: days survived, total worth, your most profitable sale and the perks you earned.
Is Probably Stolen OK for kids?
It is not made for kids. Steam’s content notes list drug abuse, alcohol abuse and crimes such as bribery and trading illegal goods, and Germany rates it 16+.
What are the Probably Stolen system requirements?
The minimum is a 64-bit version of Windows 10 or Windows 11, an Intel Core i3 or equivalent, 8 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 650 Ti or equivalent graphics card, DirectX 10 and 1 GB of storage. The studio has not published a recommended spec.
