Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is an action-adventure pirate game for PC from Ubisoft, available on Steam and Epic Games.
You play as Edward Kenway, a privateer turned pirate captain sailing the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy. Board and sink enemy ships, hunt treasure, and switch between silent takedowns and sword fights as the conflict between Assassins and Templars pulls Edward in deeper.
This is a full remake, not a re-release with a new coat of paint. Combat, stealth, and naval battles have all been rebuilt on the latest version of Anvil, Ubisoft’s in-house game engine (the software that runs the graphics, physics, and world), the same one used in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Parrying, takedowns, and ship-to-ship combat all feel and play differently than they did in the 2013 original.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced released on July 9, 2026, on Windows 11. It supports full mouse and keyboard remapping along with modern controllers, and the original voice actor for Edward Kenway returned to record new lines for this version.

What You Need to Know
- Steam and Epic Games both sell the Standard Edition for $59.99, with a Deluxe Edition at $69.99 and a Collector’s Edition at $199.99 (physical items plus all digital bonuses).
- The install needs 65GB free on an SSD (solid state drive, faster than a standard hard drive). This is one of the smaller installs for a modern open-world game, well below most recent Assassin’s Creed releases.
- Windows 11 is the only supported OS listed by Ubisoft, there is no Windows 10 option on the official specs sheet, so check your OS version before buying if you are still on Windows 10.
Quick Facts
How to Download Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced on PC
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is sold on Steam, Epic Games, and the Ubisoft Store, all for the same $59.99 Standard Edition price.
- Step 1. Go to the Steam page or the Epic Games Store page and click Buy or Add to Cart.
- Step 2. Sign in to your Steam or Epic account, or create one for free.
- Step 3. You will also need a free Ubisoft Connect account (Ubisoft’s own launcher and login service, similar to how Steam or Epic manage your games), the game requires it to activate and install no matter which store you buy from.
- Step 4. Check your free disk space before you confirm the purchase. The install needs 65GB of SSD space.
- Step 5. Wait for the download to finish, then launch the game once while online to complete activation.
- Step 6. Set your graphics options. Pick a preset that matches your GPU, and turn on upscaling (a setting that renders the game at a lower resolution, then sharpens the image back up for extra frames per second with little visual loss) if your card supports it.

What Is Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced?
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a ground-up remake of 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, built by Ubisoft Singapore on the same Anvil engine technology used in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. You play as Edward Kenway, a Welsh privateer who becomes captain of the pirate ship Jackdaw, sailing the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy while getting pulled into the long-running war between Assassins and Templars.
Combat and stealth have both been rebuilt rather than just visually upgraded. The remake adds new parrying mechanics, visceral takedowns, and a crouch-anywhere stealth option, plus reworked naval combat with new secondary weapons like shrapnel barrels that damage enemy sails. Kenway’s Fleet, a side system for sending captured ships out on missions for passive rewards, has also been reworked and is available earlier than in the original.
The remake adds new content on top of the original story too, including additional missions featuring Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet, three new officer characters who join the main narrative, ship’s pets, new sea shanties, and a photo mode. Matt Ryan, Edward’s original voice actor, returned to record new lines specifically for Resynced.

65GB of SSD space, noticeably smaller than most recent open-world Assassin’s Creed releases.
Is This Game for You?
You Will Love It If:
- ✅ You want an open-world pirate game with a strong sense of place and freedom
- ✅ You liked the original Black Flag and want to see it rebuilt with modern combat
- ✅ You enjoy naval combat as much as on-foot exploration
- ✅ You have never played Black Flag and want a well-reviewed entry point into the series
- ✅ You have a PC that can handle ray tracing and modern upscaling
You Might Not If:
- ❌ You wanted the original’s modern-day story sections, they were cut from this remake
- ❌ You only run Windows 10, Ubisoft’s official specs list Windows 11 only
- ❌ You want a short game, the campaign runs long with a huge open world
- ❌ You are sensitive to launch bugs, early reviews flagged some at release
- ❌ You want an online or co-op mode, there isn’t one
🎮 Our Take
Black Flag Resynced landed as the best-reviewed Assassin’s Creed game since the original Black Flag itself, and the reasons why are easy to see once you play it. The Caribbean setting, naval combat, and pirate fantasy that made the 2013 original a fan favorite are all still here, now backed by a combat system that actually rewards timing and positioning. Reviewers were less kind about two things: some launch-week bugs, and the decision to cut the original’s modern-day story sections entirely (scenes set in the present day at Abstergo, the fictional company that frames the whole series), which longtime fans may miss even if new players won’t notice.
If you played and liked the 2013 Black Flag, this is worth buying, the naval combat and open world hold up better than almost anything else in the series. If you have never played an Assassin’s Creed pirate game before, this is a genuinely good place to start, you don’t need any prior series knowledge. If your PC can’t hit the minimum spec or you just want to try it first, Boosteroid lets you stream games you own through its cloud PC service.
System Requirements
Tips for Getting Started
Match your upscaler to your graphics card brand
Use DLSS on NVIDIA, FSR on AMD, or XeSS on Intel Arc (each brand’s own upscaling technology) for the best balance of framerate and image quality before touching resolution scale.
Upgrade the Jackdaw before taking on bigger ships
Naval combat gets much harder once you run into Man O’War ships (the largest, most heavily armed enemy vessels in the game). Spend resources on hull and cannon upgrades early instead of saving them.
Use Observe mode before starting a stealth sequence
The reworked Eagle Vision (Edward’s ability to spot enemies and points of interest through walls and foliage) extension tags nearby enemies and objectives, making it much easier to plan a route before you commit to it.
Recruit officers early for the Jackdaw
Each officer brings a unique naval combat ability. Finding and assigning them as soon as possible makes ship battles noticeably easier later.
Check for patches before a long play session
Early reviews flagged some launch bugs. Ubisoft Connect and Steam both auto-update, but a manual check before diving in for hours can save you a headache.
