Microsoft has announced the rollout of a new update for the Microsoft Copilot app on Windows, which introduces Copilot Actions. This feature enables users to perform tasks directly on local files in Windows within an Agent Workspace, a contained, policy-controlled, and auditable environment. Copilot Actions allows users to describe a task in their own words, and the agent will attempt to complete it by interacting with desktop and web applications in a separate environment.

The Copilot Actions feature is designed to assist users with various tasks, such as sorting through recent vacation photos, organizing the Downloads folder, converting files, or extracting information from a PDF. As a general-purpose agent, Copilot Actions can perform tasks based on the context of what’s on the user’s PC. However, as an experimental Copilot Labs feature, it may make mistakes or encounter challenges with complex interfaces, and users are advised to monitor its work closely.

To use Copilot Actions, users can select the "Take Action" option from the dropdown menu in the composer and optionally provide files or folders by selecting "Attach file" or "Attach folder" from the + button. Copilot will then create a desktop and start working on the task. The update is available for Windows Insiders worldwide, excluding the EEA, and can be downloaded through the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft is seeking feedback from users to improve the Copilot Actions experience. Users can provide feedback directly within the Copilot app by clicking on their profile icon and choosing "Give feedback". The company is excited to preview improvements with Windows Insiders to ensure all customers have a great Copilot experience on Windows.

The rollout of Copilot Actions is a significant development for Microsoft and Windows users, as it enhances the capabilities of the Copilot app and provides users with a more efficient way to manage their files and tasks. As the feature continues to roll out, Microsoft will likely gather feedback and make improvements to ensure a seamless user experience. With Copilot Actions, Microsoft is further integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its products and services, making it easier for users to interact with their PC and complete tasks efficiently.
