Microsoft Releases New Windows 11 Insider Preview Build for Beta Channel

Microsoft announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.3964 (KB5058496) for Windows Insiders on the Beta Channel. This update is specifically targeted at users running Windows 11, version 24H2, and follows the last update released for version 23H2. The company noted that all Insiders in the Beta Channel will soon be upgraded to version 24H2.

New Copilot+ PC Experiences

Two significant updates are rolling out to Copilot+ PCs:

  1. AI-Powered Agent in Settings: Users can now describe their needs (e.g., "control my PC by voice") to receive recommended steps for resolving issues. This feature utilizes on-device AI (Phi Silica Small Language Model) and is currently available for Snapdragon-powered PCs with support for AMD- and Intel-powered PCs coming soon. English language support is required for this experience.

  2. Intelligent Text Actions in Click to Do: Building on the Click to Do experience, users can select text and access options to Summarize, Create a bulleted list, or Rewrite text for a more causal, formal, or polished tone. This feature is available for AMD- and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs with English as the default language and requires a Microsoft account or Microsoft Entra account for access.

Additional Changes and Improvements

  • Dynamic Lighting: Compatible devices can now be safely removed using the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" taskbar icon.
  • Settings: A dedicated FAQs section on the System > About page provides quick insights into common PC and Windows 11 questions, covering system configuration, performance, and compatibility.

Fixes and Known Issues

The update addresses several reliability and functionality issues, including:

  • Start menu, File Explorer, Voice Access, Taskbar, Windows Spotlight, Live captions, and MMC color improvements.
  • Known issues include a temporary reduction in intelligent text actions for French and Spanish languages in Click to Do, PC reset and safe mode functionality, and compatibility concerns with Xbox Controllers via Bluetooth.

Entra ID Support for AI Features

IT-managed PCs in the Canary, Dev, and Beta Channels now have access to Entra ID support for AI features in Paint (version 11.2503.381.0 and higher) and Notepad (version 11.2503.16.0 and higher). This update enables commercial customers to utilize previously consumer-limited features, such as Cocreator and Generative Fill in Paint, and text summarization/rewriting in Notepad.

Reminders for Windows Insiders

  • Updates for the Beta Channel are delivered via an enablement package (Build 26120.xxxx) and focus on enhancing servicing technology for Windows 11, version 24H2.
  • Controlled Feature Rollout technology ensures gradual feature distribution, allowing users to opt-in for the latest updates via Settings > Windows Update.
  • Features in development may not be fully localized or released publicly, emphasizing the importance of user feedback through the Feedback Hub.

The release highlights Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to refine Windows 11 through Insider feedback, with new features and improvements aimed at enhancing user experience, accessibility, and productivity. As the development process continues, users can expect further updates and refinements ahead of the next major Windows 11 release.
