Microsoft Releases Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27868 to Canary Channel
Microsoft announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27868 to the Canary Channel. This update brings improvements to voice access and addresses several issues reported by users. The company also confirmed that SDKs for 27xxx series builds will not be released for the time being.
Enhanced Voice Access Experience
The new build introduces an immersive in-product experience for voice access, designed to help users discover and explore new features more easily. This enhancement allows users to launch or dismiss the experience from the settings menu, making it more convenient to learn about updates.
Fixes and Improvements
The update includes several key fixes:
- Pen input responsiveness: Resolved an issue causing pen input to be unresponsive on some PCs, which also affected touch interaction scenarios.
- App launch and installation: Mitigated an underlying problem that caused apps like Spotify to fail to launch or install from the Microsoft Store with an 0x80070032 error.
- Group Policy Editor rendering: Fixed an issue causing Group Policy Editor to display incorrectly for some languages, such as Chinese, resulting in blank areas.
- Bugcheck error: Addressed an issue leading to a SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED bugcheck in recent Canary builds.
Known Issues and Workarounds
Microsoft highlighted several known issues with the new build:
- Copilot+ PCs: Users joining the Canary Channel on new Copilot+ PCs from other channels may experience errors with Windows Hello PIN and biometrics. Re-creating the PIN should resolve the issue.
- Group Policy Editor error message: An Administrative Templates error may appear, but clicking "OK" allows normal functionality.
- Taskbar transparency: The taskbar may not display acrylic material after upgrading.
- Audio device compatibility: Audio devices with high sampling rates (e.g., 192Hz) and multiple channels may not produce sound. Microsoft is working on a fix.
- Virtualization Based Security: Enabling this feature may prevent applications like VMware Workstation from running unless the Windows Hypervisor Platform optional component is installed.
- Task Manager functionality: Search and filtering options in Task Manager are currently non-functional.
Reminders for Canary Channel Insiders
Microsoft reminded users that Canary Channel builds represent early development stages and may not reflect final releases. Features and experiences in these builds may change, be removed, or never released. The company also noted that some features might appear in Dev and Beta Channels first. Insiders are encouraged to report localization issues via the Feedback Hub. To exit the Canary Channel, a clean installation of Windows 11 is required due to technical setup requirements.
The update process and known issues will continue to be monitored, with Microsoft working to address outstanding problems. As the development cycle progresses, users can expect further refinements and updates to the Windows 11 platform.
