Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7535 to the Dev and Beta Channels. This build is part of the Windows 11, version 25H2, and offers the same features and updates to both channels. As a reminder, Insiders in the Dev Channel have a limited time to switch to the Beta Channel before the opportunity closes.
The new build introduces several new features, including Copilot-powered image descriptions in Narrator. This feature allows blind and low-vision users to hear detailed, AI-generated descriptions of images, charts, and graphs. Narrator can now work with Copilot on all Windows 11 devices, enabling users to explore trends, labels, and key changes in images and visual elements. Users can press the Narrator key + Ctrl + D to describe the focused image or press Narrator key + Ctrl + S to describe the full screen.
In addition to the new features, Microsoft is also rolling out improvements and fixes. Admins can now uninstall the Microsoft Copilot app on managed devices by enabling a new policy titled RemoveMicrosoftCopilotApp. This policy applies to devices that meet certain conditions, including having both Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Copilot installed, and not having the Microsoft Copilot app installed by the user.
The company is also enhancing the Cross Device Resume capability, which allows app developers to integrate with Resume using a solution based on the Link to Windows app or the Windows Notification System (WNS). This additional option expands the scope of users who can offer the Resume capability, delivering a seamless experience on Windows.
Other fixes and improvements include updates to the Windows Spotlight icon, fixes for issues with the Start menu, File Explorer, and print dialog, and improvements to the Windows Update settings page. Microsoft is also working on fixes for known issues, including problems with the Xbox full-screen experience, Taskbar and System Tray, and Settings.
The Windows Insider Program Team reminds Insiders that updates are based on Windows 11, version 25H2, via an enablement package, and that many features are rolled out using Controlled Feature Rollout technology. Insiders can turn on the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available via Settings > Windows Update. The team encourages Insiders to provide feedback on the new features and improvements, which will help shape the future of Windows.
