What is changing
Starting this week, Windows 11 users on regular retail builds will see the new Windows Insider Program interface in Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program. The change rolls out gradually, so you might not see it right away, but it lets you switch channels or leave the program without reinstalling Windows. This UI is the same one tested in Insider Preview builds, now available to everyone. Additionally, a new taskbar size setting is now available in the Experimental channel, giving users a dedicated control to adjust the taskbar’s height or width directly.
New Insider Preview builds are being released today. Beta (26H1) Build 28020.2366 and Experimental (26H1) Build 28120.2374 are available for their respective channels. A third build, Experimental (Future Platforms) Build 29617.1000, covers the Canary 29600 series but does not yet include the new program changes. The Future Platforms builds will be updated in the near future.
Why it matters
Insiders and power users benefit most from the new UI because they can now test features without a full reinstall. They’ll get early access to updates and have a smoother experience switching between development tracks.
If you run Windows 11 on a retail PC, you’ll notice the extra channel options in Settings. The impact is modest at first, since rollout is phased, but it means you can join or leave the Insider program more easily. The taskbar size tweak is limited to the Experimental channel, so most users won’t see it yet.
