CONTROL Resonant is an action RPG for PC from Remedy Entertainment, available on Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG. You play Dylan Faden, Jesse’s brother, freed after years as a Bureau prisoner to fight a cosmic force that is bending Manhattan out of shape. You explore the warped city, take on giant bosses called Resonants and build up Dylan’s powers your way.

The big change from the first game is the fighting. Dylan fights up close with the Aberrant, a weapon that shifts from a two-handed hammer to twin blades on command. You mix it with elemental powers and throw the city itself at enemies.

It came out on September 24, 2026, as the sequel to 2019’s Control. It runs on Windows 10 and 11 with full controller support, and is also on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Remedy announced one million copies sold three weeks after launch.

What Is CONTROL Resonant?

CONTROL Resonant is a single-player action RPG set seven years after Control. A force called the Patterning has cut Manhattan off from the world and is twisting it out of shape, while the Hiss (the hostile force from the first game) has broken out of the Bureau’s headquarters, the Oldest House. Dylan works for the same Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) that held him prisoner, and searches for his missing sister, Director Jesse Faden.

The city is split into zones you explore freely, with streets that bend sideways and buildings that hang from the sky. Each zone is anchored by a Resonant, a giant boss warped by the Patterning. Beating them grows Dylan’s powers, and how many you take on shapes how fast enemies scale with you. A deep skill tree and build system let you shape how his abilities grow.

Our Take

🎮 Our Take

CONTROL Resonant is a bold sequel. Remedy could have made Control again in a bigger building. Instead it moved the fight onto the streets, swapped the gun for a melee weapon, and roughly doubled the length. The warped Manhattan is the standout: gravity tricks and impossible architecture give it a look no other open action game has. What to weigh: the moveset is narrower than the setup suggests, since you cannot switch weapon forms on the fly, and the early game needed a launch-day patch because enemies took too many hits. The 1.4.0 update shows Remedy is listening and fixing fast.

If you loved Control or Remedy’s strange storytelling, buy it, and Standard is all you need. If you mainly want deep combo combat, try it knowing a mod is the only way to swap forms mid-fight. If you only liked the first game for its shooting, watch the trailer first, because this plays differently.

Why Play CONTROL Resonant on PC?

  • Higher framerates: Consoles run what their hardware allows. On a strong PC you can push the framerate higher, which helps in fast dodge-heavy fights.
  • Mods: A modding scene is already active: minimaps, mid-fight weapon swapping, better HDR and an in-game music player.
  • A DRM-free option: GOG sells it with no DRM, so you can play without a launcher sign-in. Steam and Epic are there if you prefer them.
  • Peripheral support: Full controller support with DualSense features, plus Razer haptics added in Game Update 1.4.0.

System Requirements

These are the requirements Remedy lists on Steam and Epic. Both specs need an SSD, and Intel Arc cards are supported at both levels. A hard drive is not supported.

AMD card? Remedy pointed players to AMD’s newer optional drivers, which fixed crashes and improved performance in this game, so update your driver first. Below the minimum spec? Cloud gaming runs it on a remote PC instead. If you would rather upgrade, our Best Gaming Desktops guide is a good place to start.

Tips for Beginners

1

Watch your Build Power

Your Build Power sits on the Loadout screen. If it is below the enemy level, fights get much harder, so do side quests and explore to level up.

2

Respec without worry

Reset Items are cheap and vendors keep plenty. The first Resonant boss drops two. Try a build, and change it if it does not click.

3

Use Rush to clear effects

Burning or another status effect wearing you down? The Rush ability clears status effects.

4

Pin the materials you need

Pin upgrade materials and the map shows which vendor stocks them, so you do not have to walk to every shop.

5

Tune Assist Mode

If a fight is stuck on repeat, the Assist Mode sliders in the Gameplay options can ease enemy damage or speed up ability recovery.

Best CONTROL Resonant Mods to Start With

CONTROL Resonant has no Steam Workshop. Mods come from Nexus Mods, where most of them load through two small helper mods: DLL Mod Loader and Mod Settings Menu, which adds a MODS tab to the options. Install those first. These five are good places to start.

Back up your saves before modding. The game is single-player, so there is no anti-cheat ban to worry about, but a game update can break a mod until its author updates it. Remove mods before reporting bugs to Remedy.

CONTROL Resonant FAQ

Do I need to play Control before CONTROL Resonant?
It helps, but it is not required. Resonant is a direct sequel set seven years after the first game, so Control gives you the backstory on Dylan, Jesse and the Hiss. If you skip it, the official “Previously on Control” story trailer recaps what happened.
How long is CONTROL Resonant?
Lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov put the main story at around 30 hours and a full completion at around 50 hours. That is roughly twice the length of the first game.
Is CONTROL Resonant multiplayer?
No. It is a single-player game with no co-op or online mode on any store.
Does CONTROL Resonant have a Photo Mode?
Not at launch. Remedy said after release that a Photo Mode was in the works and planned it for November 2026, built with help from virtual photographers in the community. Check the Steam news page for the update that adds it.
Is the GOG version of CONTROL Resonant DRM-free?
Yes. GOG sells it DRM-free, so you can play it with no launcher sign-in or online connection. Note that some mods are built and tested for the Steam version only.
Is CONTROL Resonant coming to Mac?
Yes. Remedy says a Mac version is coming through Steam and the Mac App Store later in 2026. On PC it runs on Windows 10 and 11 only.
What are the CONTROL Resonant system requirements?
The minimum is Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), an Intel Core i5-8500 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500, 16 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 1070, Radeon RX 5600 XT or Intel Arc A580, and 120 GB on an SSD. The recommended spec asks for an Intel Core i7-10700 or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X and a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, Radeon RX 6700 XT or Intel Arc B580, with the same 16 GB of RAM and 120 GB SSD.
