How is the gameplay like?

First of all, I have been playing this game on my PS4 when it came out back in 2020 and I think I never finished it, and to be honest I don’t finish most games, and that’s not a knock on this game or any other but by the time I want to finish to finish the game, another new game has come out and well, I would be busy playing that lol, anyway, this game combines intense sword-fighting and sneaky stealth tactics. In Ghost of Tsushima, you play as Jin, a samurai warrior living through the Mongol invasion of Japan.

The combat system in this game is amazing, letting you use the powerful katana sword with great skill. Jin can master different fighting stances, each one designed to defeat specific types of enemies, from quick swordsmen to tough brutes. Being able to switch between these stances in the middle of a battle is really smooth and exciting, allowing you to change your strategies on the fly.

Stealth is also a huge part of the game, giving you the ability to avoid being detected and take out enemies silently. Jin has special “ghost weapons” like kunai (throwing knives), smoke bombs, and sticky bombs, each with its own strategic use in direct confrontations or sneaky operations. As you progress, you can unlock advanced moves like chain assassinations, empowering you to quickly take out multiple enemies without being seen or heard.

As you play, you’ll unlock advanced techniques like chain assassinations, which let you swiftly eliminate multiple enemies one after another.

The game’s story takes place across three distinct regions of Tsushima, each with plenty of main missions, side quests, and optional activities that make the story richer and give Jin new abilities and better equipment.

Stealth kill

What I really liked was the full DualSense controller support(I highly recommend you get yourself the PS5 controllers to play this game), including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, to feel the tension of drawing your katana and the resistance of your bowstring plus you can completely customize your mouse and keyboard controls, for those of you who prefer your own custom setup.

The Director’s Cut edition for Windows also includes the Iki Island expansion, which explores Jin’s past in more depth with new storylines, new types of enemies, and unique challenges.

What tips or strategies work best for me?

Well what worked for me when I first got this game was learning how to kill at least half of your enemies in stealth mode, of course, I have to admit, I am not all into that quiet playing style, sometimes I just like to go off and let them know I am here and they can come AT ME, it usually worked for me lol but don’t cuss me out if you fail some missions taking this advice, deal? Lol anyway, here are some serious tips to improve your gameplay…

  • Become a Stance Master: Learn to change your fighting style to match the enemy. The Stone Stance overpowers sword fighters, the Water Stance breaks through shields, and the Wind Stance disrupts spearmen. Perfectly blocking attacks and switching stances at the right time can turn a battle in your favor.
  • Use Ghost Tools: Ghost of Tsushima encourages you to be creative. Use throwing knives and darts for sneaky takedowns, smoke bombs to retreat safely, and Ghost Weapons like sticky bombs and black powder bombs to control groups of enemies.
  • Use Your Environment: The beautiful island of Tsushima has hidden advantages. Climb to high points to scout enemy camps, set traps in tall grass for unsuspecting patrols, and use flaming arrows to set the enemy’s supplies on fire.
  • Befriend Animals: Foxes will lead you to Inari Shrines that teach you powerful combat skills. Follow chirping birds to find hidden resources, and release wild boars to cause chaos among the enemy ranks.
  • Master Blocking and Counterattacks: While attacking is important, mastering defense is crucial. Learn to read enemy attacks, perfectly block them, and unleash devastating counterattacks to quickly defeat your foes.

Climbing house

Pros:

  • Gorgeous Open World: Explore a beautiful re-creation of Tsushima Island, filled with diverse environments and breathtaking landscapes.
  • Fun Combat: Master the art of sword fighting with different stances and techniques. Use sneaky tactics and special ghost weapons for a unique combat experience.
  • Compelling Story: Get immersed in a captivating narrative inspired by Japanese history and mythology.
  • Strategic Depth: Use the environment, wildlife, and Jin’s diverse skills to approach combat in creative, strategic ways.
  • Truly Immersive: Japanese voice acting with matching lip movements, traditional music, and a strong focus on Japanese culture create an authentic, immersive atmosphere. (Enhanced in Director’s Cut)
  • Amazing Photo Mode: Capture stunning in-game moments with a robust photo mode offering many filters and options.

Cons:

Repetitive Side Missions: While some side quests have interesting stories, many follow a similar fetch-and-deliver format.
Predictable Enemy AI: Enemy behavior can be predictable, especially when it comes to stealth mechanics.
Limited Character Customization: While Jin has different armor sets, options for changing his visual appearance are somewhat limited.
Bland Story Presentation: Cutscenes, while visually appealing, can feel a bit static compared to the dynamic open world.
No Cross-Platform Saves: Save data cannot be transferred between PlayStation and PC versions (only applies to Director’s Cut).

If you want a full review of this game, I would recommend you check out this Youtube video by a guy named Mugthief aka Mugy. Mugy really digs into what makes the PC version of the game great. He loves the open-world gameplay and the amazing cinematic visuals, which he thinks are underrated even though they got high scores.

Unlike other reviewers, Mugy cares more about the game’s artistic style than just raw graphics power, highlighting the beautiful designs and immersive combat. His review also talks about technical things like better performance and controller support, giving a complete look at why this game is a must-play on PC.
