Horses of Hoofprint Bay is a hand-drawn horse stable game for PC from Thogli Studios, available on Steam. You start with one mare and a run-down shack, then groom, train and compete to earn prize money. Over time you breed foals, hire staff and grow the yard into a stud farm.

What Is Horses of Hoofprint Bay?

Horses of Hoofprint Bay puts you in charge of a small horse yard near a seaside town. You have finally saved up for a plot of land, but the stable is barely standing. With one trusted mare, you start training for local tournaments and slowly build the place up.

Daily care happens at the hitching post: feed, groom, check tack and treat injuries.

Each day splits between care and riding. You groom and feed your horses, then train them to build strength, endurance and confidence. Better stats let you enter showjumping, Caprilli tests (a dressage-style riding test with small jumps) and cross country events, where you win prize money and Prestige.

Prestige is your overall progress score. You earn it by upgrading buildings, winning events and keeping good horses, and you lose it if you show up with a dirty horse or let one fall seriously ill. Higher Prestige unlocks better horses at the breeder, more tack in the shop and new trail rides.

Foals inherit a mix of their parents' coat colors, white markings and personality traits.

Horses of Hoofprint Bay knows exactly what it wants to be: the 2D horse stable game a lot of people played as kids, made with more care and more depth. The hand-drawn art is the first thing you notice, and the care routine backs it up, since grooming and hoof checks have real effects without dragging on. Breeding, Prestige and the three competition types give you long-term goals, and the stat-heavy Horse Overview screen will please anyone who likes to plan. It is a small game from a two-person team, though. It is mouse-driven 2D with no controller support listed and no multiplayer, and a first release from a team this size can ship with rough edges that get patched later.

If you love horses and want a calm management game you can sink weeks into, buy it: it runs on almost any Windows PC, and the price is fair for what is here. If you are not sure the 2D, point-and-click style is for you, play the free demo first. Your October demo save carries over, so you lose nothing by starting there.

Groom before every competition

Showing up with a dirty horse or without the right riding clothes costs you Prestige, even if you place well.

Watch for the gait warning

A small icon appears before a nervous horse changes gait on its own. Correct it right away to keep your round clean.

Walk your horse toward a scary object, praise it when it is curious, and give it space when it gets worried.

Take nursing mares on walks

You can walk any horse in the arena or the forest, and a nursing mare brings her foal along.

Pick your cross country path

Some courses offer a short path with harder jumps or a longer path with easier ones. Choose based on your horse's remaining strength.
