Microsoft Deploys New Features and Fixes in Windows 11 Build 26100.4762 for Enhanced Productivity and Stability

Microsoft announced the deployment of Windows 11 Build 26100.4762 (KB5062660) today, rolling out new features and fixes to users in the Release Preview Channel of the Windows 11, 24H2 platform. The update aims to strengthen productivity tools, streamline system settings, and enhance device resilience, as outlined in the company’s latest roadmap.
Recall receives significant upgrades, particularly for users in the European Economic Area (EEA). A new feature allows these users to export app snapshots—visual records of user activity—to trusted third-party applications and websites. The export functionality requires a unique Recall export code, which is generated during initial setup and visible only once. Microsoft emphasized that the code is not stored or recoverable by the company. Accessible via Settings > Privacy & Security > Recall & Snapshots > Advanced Settings, users must authenticate with Windows Hello to initiate exports. Additionally, a reset function for Recall has been introduced to erase all snapshots and settings, granting administrators and users direct control over the feature.
In the Click to Do ecosystem, Microsoft added tools to improve reading and writing workflows. The Reading Coach app (free on the Microsoft Store) now supports features like Practice in Reading Coach, which evaluates users’ reading fluency and pronunciation, and Read with Immersive Reader, offering customizable text displays and focus tools. A third Draft with Copilot in Word action, available on Copilot+ PCs, enables users to convert screen text into a Word draft—but requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription. For Copilot+ PCs, Click to Do also integrates with Microsoft Teams, allowing direct message delivery or meeting scheduling when selecting email addresses on-screen.
Settings in non-Copilot+ Windows 11 devices now centralizes its privacy-related configuration. A redesigned Search layout consolidates options under Settings > Privacy & Security > Search, while the search box will be repositioned to the top center for easier access. On Copilot+ PCs, an AI-driven assistant has been introduced to simplify common IT tasks. Users can request solutions to issues like “how to control my PC by voice” and receive guided steps to resolve them. However, this agent is currently limited to Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs and devices with English as the primary display language.
As part of the Windows Resiliency Initiative unveiled at Microsoft Ignite 2024, the update introduces Quick Machine Recovery, which automates fixes for widespread device problems via the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). If a device encounters a critical boot issue, it will connect to the internet and apply targeted updates from Windows Update. IT administrators can configure or customize this feature using Intune Settings Catalog UI (RemoteRemediationCSP). A dedicated settings page for Quick Machine Recovery is available under System > Recovery, and it is enabled by default for home users. A redesigned unexpected restart interface also aligns with Windows 11’s aesthetic, using a black background with clear technical details to expedite troubleshooting.
Additional updates include improvements to Snap, which provides inline guidance when using app windows via drag-and-drop or button hover actions, and revisions to File Explorer to resolve display and performance issues, especially for users syncing multiple SharePoint sites. The Gamepad keyboard layout now supports controller navigation and shortcuts for gaming and lock-screen PIN entry. Fixes are also included for desktop app icons, notifications, and authentication processes, addressing bugs affecting LSASS operations, system stability from recent security updates, and memory overloads in the Resilient File System (ReFS) for large files.
Microsoft stated that full rollout will occur in stages, with some features like the Settings agent expanding to AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs in the coming months. These changes reflect the company’s ongoing focus on combining AI integration with user-centric design to reduce technical barriers and streamline the Windows 11 experience across both personal and enterprise environments. By addressing common pain points and expanding collaboration tools, the update underscores Microsoft’s commitment to supporting work efficiency and system reliability for a diverse user base.
