Microsoft recently released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 29570 to the Canary Channel. This update is part of the experimental testing phase where Microsoft tries out new ideas before they reach the general public. The biggest addition is a brand-new way to play games on your PC.

Xbox Mode Comes to the PC

The standout feature in this build is “Xbox mode.” This is a full-screen interface designed to make your PC feel like an Xbox console. It is perfect for when you want to sit back and use a controller instead of a mouse and keyboard.

Microsoft is expanding lock screen widgets to everyone. Previously, only users in certain parts of Europe could fully customize these. Now, users in all regions can add, remove, and move widgets around on their lock screen.

You can now see live updates for:

• Sports scores
• Stock market watchlists

To change these, go to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen.

New Hardware and Input Controls

This update gives you more ways to tweak how your mouse and pen work:

• Touchpad Zones: If your laptop has a clickable touchpad, you can now change the size of the “right-click zone.” You can choose between small, medium, or large areas in your settings.
• Pen Shortcuts: For those who use a digital pen, there is a new option for the tail button. You can set it to open the same app as the Copilot key on newer keyboards.

Cleaner Visuals and Menus

Microsoft is making the small details look better. When you right-click on specific files (like .exe or .bat files), the “Open” icon in the menu will now match the actual app icon. It makes the menus feel more consistent and easier to scan quickly.

Important Note for Testers

Since this is a Canary Channel build, it is the most experimental version of Windows 11. These features are still being tested and might change significantly or be removed entirely before they are released to everyone else. If you use your PC for important work, it is usually best to stay on the standard version of Windows.
