Microsoft has made big updates to Project Flash, a tool that helps customers better monitor the health of their virtual machines (VMs) on Microsoft Azure. These updates give users more control, faster alerts, and clearer insights into what’s happening with their cloud systems.
Project Flash is part of Azure Core Compute and was created to help companies running workloads in the cloud see exactly what’s going on with their VMs. It shows whether issues come from the Azure platform or from actions taken by the customer. That way, teams can act fast and keep services running smoothly.
One of the big new features is now in public preview: users can tell if an issue came from Microsoft’s side or their own using something called the Context dimension. It adds labels like “Platform,” “Customer,” or “Unknown” so users can better understand why a VM went down.
Another update lets users send alerts to Event Grid with low-latency notifications. This means teams can get emails, texts, or push notifications within seconds when problems happen. This is a big deal for companies who need to react quickly to avoid downtime.
Microsoft also showed off how easy it is to use Flash tools together. For example:
- Use Azure Resource Graph to check many VMs at once.
- Monitor trends with Azure Monitor Metrics.
- See current status with Resource Health.
Big companies like BlackRock are already using Flash. A leader there said Flash helped lower unexpected outages by alerting them early about hardware problems. That lets them move workloads before there’s any real impact.
Looking ahead, Microsoft plans to expand Flash to cover even more scenarios, including network and hardware failures. They’re also working to make all the data more accurate and easier to use.
